In 1860, the John Cavender family was living in Robinsonville, Southhampton Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania. In 1870, a John Cavender family was living in Chaneysville, Southhampton Township in Bedford County, Pennsylvania. In 1880, a John Cavender family was living in Mann Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania. Many Cavenders are buried in the Fairview Church Cemetery located in Bedford County, Pennsylvania on Route 26 just north of the Maryland State line.
Also living in Bedford County, Pennsylvania from at least 1850 to 1870 was the family of William Cavender, believed to be the brother of the above John Cavender, and who was born about1826-1827, and married a Sarah who was born about 1829-1830. The above William Cavender family was living in Chaneysville, Southhampton Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania in 1870. William Cavender and Sarah Cavender had 8 children:
Elizabeth Cavender born in 1850-1851;

HUGH CAVENER line (1762-1842)
HUGH CAVENER, (also "Hugh Cavenaugh", “Hugh Caverer”, and possibly “Hugh Cavender”?) born about 1762, married either June McFerron or Jane McFerron in Greene County, Tennessee on January 31, 1784, and is said to have died about 1830 in Greene County, Tennessee. Also, recorded in land grants from North Carolina to Greene County, Tennessee are the following grants: (i) On September 20, 1787, a Hugh Cavenaugh (sometimes "Hugh Caverer") for the sum of 50 shillings purchased 100 acres of land in Greene County, Tennessee on Dunhams Branch adjoining Sam Bigham and James Whiteside; and, (ii) on April 22, 1813, James McPheran purchased 25 acres on the waters of Roaring Fork of Lick Creek adjoining Cavener.
On January 19, 1822, Hugh Cavener (“Hugh Cavender”?) executed his Last Will and Testament in which he named his wife Jane Cavener ("Jane Cavender"?), his son John Cavener ("John Cavender"?), and his grandsons William Cavener ("William Cavender"?), Hugh Cavener ("Hugh Cavender"?), Isaac Cavener ("Isaac Cavender") and William McAmish, the son of Hugh Cavener's married daughter, Margaret McAmish (formerly Margaret Cavener"). The farm of Hugh Cavener ("Hugh Cavender"?) apparently adjoined the farms of Andrew M. Johnson ("Andrew Johnson"), widow Mumms? and John Roilson (“John Ralston”?). The Last Will and Testament of Hugh Cavener was witnessed by Joseph Bullen and John W. Wilson ("John Wilson"). Hugh Cavener and June Cavener ("Jane Cavener", “Jane Cavender”? & “June Cavender”?) had 3 children:
JOHN CAVENER (“John Cavner” & “John Cavender”?) born about 1785-1795 (some say 1793-1794) in Greene County, Tennessee and on June 23, 1814 was issued a marriage certificate in Greene County, Tennessee to permit his marriage to Susanna Armitage ("Susan Armitage"). On the same day, John Cavener ("John Cavender"?) and Hugh Cavener ("Hugh Cavender"?) posted a bond in the amount of $1,250 to guarantee that there was no lawful reason why John Cavner and Susanna Armitage should not be married. Susannah Armitage was the daughter of Isaac Armitage and Elizabeth Weston. John Cavener later married Phebe Bailey ("Phoebe Bailey") in Greene County, Tennessee on March 30, 1843, and he died on February 8, 1848 in Greene County, Tennessee. 279 & 451
On December 27, 1847, John Cavener, Sr. (John Cavender, Sr."?) executed his Last Will and Testament and which was probated in 1848WB-2-67# Greene Cnty, TN and in which he named his former wife, Susanna Cavener ("Susanna Cavender"?, formerly "Susanna Armitage"), his present wife Phebe Cavener ("Phoebe Cavener"?, "Phebe Cavender" & "Phoebe Cavender"?), and his sons William Cavener ("William Cavender"?), Isaac Cavener ("Isaac Cavender"?), his daughter Nancy Emeline Cavener ("Nancy Cavener", “N.E. Cavender” & "Nancy Cavender"?), Hugh Cavener ("Hugh Cavender"?), John Cavener, Jr. ("John Cavender, Jr."?), Thomas Cavener ("Thomas Cavender"?), and George Cavener ("George Cavender"?), and his daughter Nancy Harmon (formerly "Nancy Cavener" & "Nancy Cavender"?).
The Will of John Cavener, Sr., read as follows:
"Wife, Phebe ("Phebe Cavener" & "Phoebe Cavener"?), to have articles in Cocke County ("Cocke County, Tennessee") and what she brought when we got married. To son William ("William Cavener") my bureau. To son, Hugh ("Hugh Cavener" & “Hugh Cavender”?), my falling leaf table. To daughter, Nancy Harmon ("Nancy Cavener" & “Nancy Cavender”?), 20 acres of land. Sons, Thomas ("Thomas Cavener" & “Thomas Cavender”?) and George ("George Cavener" & “George Cavender”?), to have the plantation I live on, 100 acres towards Andrew Johnson's land. Son, John ("John Cavener" & “John Cavender”), to have management of farm. Anna Reese staying with me. Granddaughter, Nancy Emeline Cavener ("Nancy Cavener", Nancy Emaline Cavender”? & “Nancy Cavender”?), daughter of my son, Isaac ("Isaac Cavener" & “Isaac Cavender”), to have 2 sheep. All heirs to sign a quit claim to John Armitage of all interest my first wife, Susan (formerly "Susan Armitage"), had to a piece of land."
The executor was John Cavener ("John Cavender"?) and the witnesses were William West and Henry Harmon. Greene County, Tennessee is adjacent to Cocke County, Tennessee and both are located in the Easternmost part of Tennessee.
From the foregoing, it appears that John Cavener, Sr. ("John Cavner"? & "John Cavender"?) must have first married a Susan Armitage ("Susanna Armitage"?), and then later married Phebe Bailey ("Phoebe Bailey") in Greene County, Tennessee on March 30, 1843, and died in Greene County, Tennessee sometime between December 27, 1847 and February 8, 1848. It is said that John Cavener and Susan Cavener ("Susanna Cavener"?) had 12 children. However, their youngest child, George Cavener, is said to have written that he was the youngest of 9 children of John Cavener and Susan Cavener. The known children of John Cavener (“John Cavender”?) and Susan Cavener (“Susan Cavender”?) children are:
William Cavener (“William Cavenor”? & "William Cavender"?) born on October 1, 1815 in Greene County, Tennessee, first married Catherene G. Alexander ("Catherene Alexander" & "Catherine Alexander"?) on March 14, 1843 in Greene County, Tennessee, later married Mary Jane Leming ("Mary Leming" & “Mary Lemming”?) on December 4, 1851 in Greene County, Tennessee. William Cavener died on October 31, 1872 in Greene County, Tennessee. It is to be noted that a William Cavenor ("William Cavener"? & "William Cavender"?) age 44 and family were then living in Greene County, Tennessee in 1860, together with Mary J. Cavenor ("Mary Cavenor", "Mary J. Cavender"?, “Mary Jane Cavender”?, “M.J. Cavender”? & "Mary Cavender"?) age 29 and born about 1831 and their children: Daniel Cavenor ("Daniel Cavender"?) age 7 and born about 1853; and, John Cavenor ("John Cavender"?) age 5 and born about 1855. Also living in the same household were Henry Steelman age 23 and Mary Smith age 30. 122 & 364 The children of William Cavener and Mary Leming Cavender were:
Daniel Cavener (“Daniel Cavender”?) born on April 6, 1853 in Greene County, Tennessee, and died on July 6, 1872 in Greene County, Tennessee; and,
John Cavener (“John Cavender”?) born on May 23, 1855 in Greene County, Tennessee, and is buried in the Shiloh Cemetery in Greene County, Tennessee;
Isaac Cavener ("Isaac Cavender"?) born about 1816-1820 in Greene County, Tennessee, married Mary Brannon in Greene County, Tennessee on October 25, 1838 and was probably born about 1817 if he married when he became 21 years of age. Isaac Cavener is buried in the Shiloh Cemetery in Greene County, Tennessee. Isaac Cavener and Mary Cavener ("Mary Cavner"? & "Mary Cavender"?) had a daughter named:
Nancy Emeline Cavener ("Nancy Cavner", "Nancy Cavener", "Emaline Cavener"?, “Nancy Emaline Cavender”?, “N.E. Cavender”? & "Nancy Cavender"?) born about 1839 in Greene County, Tennessee;
Hugh Curtis Cavener ("Hugh Cavener", “Hugh Curtis Cavender”?, “Hugh C. Cavender”?, “H.C. Cavender”?, & "Hugh Cavender"?) who may be the same Hugh C. Cavener ("Hugh Cavener", “Hugh C. Cavender”?, “H.C. Cavender”? & "Hugh Cavender"?) who was born in Tennessee about 1820 and in was then living in White Oak Township in Hopkins County, Texas in the same household with Elizabeth Cavener ("Elizabeth Cavender"?) who was born in South Carolina about 1802. When the 1860 census was taken for Hopkins County, Texas, he was listed as then being 40 years old (thus born about 1820) and as being born in Tennessee and was then living in White Oak Township, Hopkins County, Texas; when the 1870 census was subsequently taken, he was listed as being 50 years of age, born in Tennessee, and was then living in Saltillo Township, Hopkins County, Texas. In each listing, he was living with an Elizabeth Cavener who was listed as being born in South Carolina about 1802-1803. Hugh Cavener first married Mrs. Elizabeth Prewitt on August 25, 1853 in Hopkins County, Texas and later married Mrs. Permelia King ("Pamelia King"? & “Permellia King”) on July 17, 1873 in Hopkins County, Texas.FHL Number 1298848 Also living in the Hugh Cavener household when the 1870 census was taken was a John Nalls who was born in Texas about 1862. Supposedly in both his father's will and again in his grandfather's will he was bequeathed a side table if he choses to return to this country. Apparently, he left home at the age of 15 and traveled South to Texas with Davy Crockett and others. They joined Sam Houston's Army and Davy was later sent to the Alamo where he was killed. A few weeks later, Sam Houston along with his army, including Hugh Cavener, captured Santa Ana in the Battle of San Jacinto. Later, Hugh Cavener was awarded a Mexican land grant in Hopkins County, Texas;
