The Podsulator West EDD

Kaitlyn Wolf, David Ciesielski and Kristen Pszczolkowski

The problem addressed is that the ipod battery does not work properly under 32°F. The final design we decided on was a neoprene ipod case with Temptrol fabric from Innovative Insulation Inc. on the inside which would reflect any heat generated by the ipod. The case would be sealed with Dual Lock Velcro and on the face that touches the arm there would be a section of UnderArmour between the ipod and the skin. This will capture heat generated by the body and transfer it to the ipod and collect any moisture produced by the skin, keeping it away from the ipod. The case will be secured to the arm using an elastic band that can be used during physical activity. All of these components together will maintain a temperature above 32°F.

Self-charging Electric Car West EDD

David Gilbert and Mark Rizzo

The purpose of this charging unit is to extend the drivable mileage of an electric car. This device is design to be placed inside a car to accompany an electric motor’s power supply. The charger used alternators connected to an additional electric motor by a serpentine belt to produce energy to be stored back into the series of batteries. The series of batteries will switch back and forth between the two when the one series in use falls below 12 volts. The series of batteries are stored in the engine compartment to lessen the voltage drop over the distance from the batteries to the motor.
