Tagus Hall

Lisbon, also known as the city of the seven hills, is open to the Tagus river.

The name comes from "Olissipo", which has its origins in the Phoenician words "Allis Ubbo", meaning "enchanting port". Lisbon has strong Arabic influences; it was, occupied by the Moors for 450 years. In the 12th century the Christians reconquered the city but it was not until the mid 13th century that Lisbon became the country's capital.

Over the centuries Lisbon naturally grew and changed.

The Parque das Nações urban development project covers 340 hectares, including 5 km of river front property on the Tagus River estuary. The development's first phase laid the foundations: designed as a public space and hosting EXPO'98, it is a self-contained urban whole, with residential quarters, stores, services, urban infrastructure, parking facilities and parks. The urban "concept" called for re-establishing the link between City and River.

The idea to build Atlantic Pavilion was born in the first discussions over Expo’98 Master Plan.

Portuguese Regino Cruz was the chosen architect, associated with a big international projectors company: Skidmore, Owing & Merril (SOM).

Atlantic Pavilion shape reminds a spaceship… but its shape is also like a horseshoe crab, a species that appeared 200 millions years ago..

With its 2,200 square metres arena, the Tagus Hall can be used as a supporting area for large events or else can be turned into an independent venue in which to host meetings, congresses, dinners or some types of sporting event.
