<888> 04/07/14 Monday 9:00 A.M.  Back during the recession in 1977, one could make a bit of money out in www.nantucket.net if one had a sea scallop boat.  I used to get $50 for opening a five gallon pail of sea scallops.  A five pound pail of the sea scallops not the shells, which is a lot of sea scallops.  They now go for $15.99 a pound at the A&P Fresh in Greenwich.  Of course it is dangerous being at sea harvesting the sea scallops, and one has to have their sea legs.  It is also hard on the hands opening sea scallops since they have sharp edges.  Out in Nantucket, they use the sea scallop shells for making driveways which stinks quite a bit while the guts on the sea scallops rot in the hot sun.  Still the simple people out in Nantucket have their traditional way of doing things versus the more affluent people from the mainland.  There is not much money in quahogs which are large clams.  In the summer of 1976, in the bay on the south shore off Madeket, one could use one's toes like picking up golf balls in the water and pick up quahogs from the six feet of water at low tide.  However, one only gets about $20 for a fifty pound potato bag of quahogs.  Charlie Sayle used to make Quahog chowder, when he was not making lightship baskets.  Basket weaving is big occupation out in Nantucket, particularly in the winter.  When the summer visitors start to show up around the third week of June after the Boston schools are out, the people from down south that arrive earlier have already established themselves in their summer business occupations.  The schools down south get out much earlier.  Thus the Grey Lady might be Belle Starr http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belle_Starr .  One of the main restaurants on Broad Street in Nantucket is the "Brotherhood of Thieves".  Possibly, when the rich people show up in Nantucket, the local islanders leave the island and visit their homes on the mainland and rob them, but that is just theory.  Possibly some of the Nantucket whalers were not whalers, but possibly were pirates.  CIO

<888> 04/07/14 Monday 7:20 A.M.  I ate a bowl of pineapple chunks.  The good news from downtown Greenwich Avenue is that the tulips in the tulip bed across the street from the senior and the arts center are about three inches out of the ground, so we might have tulips on display at Easter time.  If one wants to see more tulips in America, around the first week of May, there is the http://www.tuliptime.com/ at Holland, Michigan http://www.holland.org/ , where the Dutch Americans also make http://www.heinz.com/ pickles in the world's largest pickle factory and they also make Chevy Volt batteries and http://www.chriscraft.com/ yachts.  They also have nice beaches in the summer on Lake Michigan, but it can be cool there.  Also the undertow on the Lake Michigan shore line can be dangerous.  CIO

<888> 04/07/14 Monday 6:35 A.M.  When it was minus 26 degrees Fahrenheit in Manhattan in February 1982, and I returned to Key West, Florida www.liveduvalstreet.com and http://casamarinaresort.com/ for a few weeks, the owner of http://www.carrvalleycheese.com/ gave me a place to stay for a few days, since he knew my family from the Midwest and other Dairy people we also knew.  I met a few other people down there also, but I got severely sun burned, since I was not used to being out in the intense sun.  I met a friend of Lowell Weicker's whom was a former navy medic, and since it was so cold up north, I guess a lot of other people from up north were around.  Also I have visited with family in Vero Beach, Florida since then, but I have never returned back to the Florida Keys.  Since at age 64, I am comfortable in my small apartment in Greenwich, Connecticut; and I am not very good at camping out on the beach in Florida waiting for Southern Hospitality, which never seemed to come my way south of the Mason Dixon line.  I guess I am pretty much a prisoner of economic conditions in Greenwich, Connecticut; particularly since I never venture into nearby Manhattan.  The old Nixon republican group of people from the old days do not have many people left in this area anyway.  I guess they all went back to Southern California.  Since I am from two established families in the Midwest, I manage to endure the colder winters up north in Connecticut.  Even though one spends a lot of time inside during the winter, one has to learn to keep busy in order to avoid Cabin Fever.  Before personal computers and the internet, we mostly kept busy by reading books and other printed material all of the time.  CIO

<888> 04/06/14 Sunday 11:10 P.M.  I threw out the garbage.  I went downtown, and I mailed a letter to a relative at the central Greenwich Post Office.  I then chatted with a relative on my wireless telephone.  I then chatted with a local.  I walked the entire length of Greenwich Avenue and the train station area.  The Greenwich Movie theatre on Railroad Avenue is having a French movie festival sponsored by http://www.airfrance.us/ .  I told the people at Meli Meli and Versailles about it.  I then chatted with a regular at Starbucks.  I then stopped by CVS.  I bought three Glade http://www.glade.com/en/products/sprays/automatic-spray for $5 each and .95 tax for $15.95 total.  I will use one in my bathroom, and I will save the other two for the family house in Kennebunkport, Maine.  I then bought a 18 roll bundle of Scott double roll soft toilet paper for $6.99 and .44 tax for $7.43 total.  After I finished my walk, I sat out for a while.  I then returned home.  I will now setup the new Glade scent machine in the living room on the Samsung laser printer at the apartment entrance, and I will use my current one in the bathroom with Airwick the Virgin Island scent.  CIO
