INTRODUCTION
TO FISH
FARMING

The student will be able to
3.1.1 explain the importance offish farming to the economy.
3.1.2 identify levels offish farming.
3.1.3 describe types offish farming.




Importance offish farming
- to supplement output from capture fisheries
- to generate income
- to provide employment
- for scientific research Levels offish farming
- Extensive fish farming
- Semi-Intensive fish farming
- Intensive fish farming Types offish farming
- monoculture (culture of one species offish only)
- polyculture (culture of more than one species offish- integrated culture (e.g. fish-cum- ducks, fish-cum-rice culture.

Students to discuss the importance offish farming. Students to discuss the differences in levels offish farming. Teacher to organise visits to fish farms for students to observe levels offish farming for discussion in class. Students to discuss different types offish farming. Teacher to assist students to discuss types offish farming using audiovisual aids. Students to report on types offish farming using information from journal and internet sites.
