POLICY
Residents with an incomplete theoretical background in Radiation Oncology Physics will be expected to take appropriate graduate courses.
PROCEDURE
-
Residents with an incomplete background in Radiation Oncology Physics are expected to participate in graduate program courses to bring their level of knowledge up to the standard expected of an individual graduating from the CAMPEP accredited University of Calgary (U of C) Radiation Oncology Physics Specialization.

The residency program is extended by six weeks for each ½ course that is required of the resident. Such courses include Medical Physics 623, 625, 633, 637, 639, 689.01.

A 3.0 GPA (or B+ average) must be maintained in order to remain in the program.

POLICY
The resident will attend as many department, program, and centre educational activities as scheduling allows, and keep a record of attendance.
PROCEDURE
-
Residents are expected to attend weekly Grand Rounds (inclusive of all TBCC departments), Wednesday mornings (8:00 – 9:00), and bi-weekly Radiation Treatment Program sessions (Radiation Oncology focus), Tuesdays (8:00 – 9:00 and 12:00 – 13:00).

Residents are expected to make at least one presentation per year at the Radiation Treatment Program Sessions, and may also be asked to present at Grand Rounds.

Residents record their attendance at each session. See Appendix D: Attendance – Educational Activities.

POLICY
Residents at the TBCC are expected to conduct themselves in accordance with the standards set by the Alberta Health Services and the Department of Medical Physics, and to seek clarification whenever necessary.
PROCEDURE

Residents will:
-
familiarize themselves with the Alberta Health Services Guide to the code of conduct highlighted in the Alberta Health Services website: http://www.albertahealthservices.ca/pub-cpde-of-conduct.

adhere to applicable dress code,
-
display appropriate conduct as a resident and member of the Health Care Team,
-
inform the Program Director, mentor and project supervisor of any absences (illness or otherwise),
-
appear punctually and prepared for all scheduled clinical and educational activities and meeting
-
make their best effort in all clinical and educational endeavours,
-
make their best effort to complete all required courses to the highest standards and on time,
-
utilize all opportunities to increase their knowledge base and required skills,
-
accept instruction from supervising staff and instructors,
-
report unresolved differences of opinion to the Program Director,
-
wear identification tag and OSL monitor when working in clinical areas,
-
leave identification tag and OSL monitor in the department at the end of the day,
-
inform the Program Director and Radiation Safety Officer if the identification tag or OSL monitor becomes lost or damaged.
-
Non-compliance with the above expectations will result in performance counselling sessions with the Program Director.
