POLICY
Mentors and Supervisors supporting residents will adhere to the expectations as defined by the Department of Medical Physics.
PROCEDURE
-
A Staff member who agrees to mentor or supervise a resident is expected to:
-
meet as often with the resident as required to cover the assigned material,
-
monitor the resident’s progress,
-
promptly read the resident’s reports as required,
-
ensure timely completion of the rotation, and
-
ensure timely completion of the appropriate paperwork.

Provide documentation of examinations/evaluations to the program director.

POLICY
The Residency Program curriculum will be evaluated on a regular basis.
PROCEDURE
-
The curriculum for the residency program is periodically discussed at the Radiation Oncology Physics Residency Program Committee.

General consistency with CAMPEP requirements and AAPM Report No. 90 will be evaluated.

Residents’ comments at the conclusion of each course will be reviewed by the committee and discussed. A sample evaluation in included as Appendix B: Course Evaluation.

Other solicited and unsolicited comments relating to the program will also be reviewed.
-
The Committee will recommend improvements to the program based on comments received and practical considerations.

POLICY
When it is recognized that a resident is not meeting the technical, clinical, academic, ethical or behavioural requirements of the program, the Program Director will meet with the resident for performance counselling.
PROCEDURE
-
The Program Director will request a meeting with the resident to discuss non-compliance with the expectations of the Resident. Program counselling sessions (a maximum of three) will follow.

Additional counselling sessions and/or assessments will be employed if deemed necessary by the Program Director.

At or following such a meeting, written feedback regarding concerns and progress will be documented and provided to the Resident.
-
Failure to complete the requirements as stated during the Performance Counselling process is sufficient cause to recommend to the Radiation Oncology Physics Residency Program Committee that the resident’s position be terminated. Termination of Residents will be in compliance with current AHS policies.
