VIP ADVISOR
|
Virtual, independent advisor for personal insurance and finance risk management
Project Summary
VIP-advisor will allow for new methods of enhanced electronic financial services through natural language, speech and 3D avatar technologies combined with intelligent and information retrieval components. The VIP-Advisor project aims to bring virtual assistants, specialised in risk management in the insurance and finance field, into new dimensions of usability and intelligence. The bringing together of different advanced technologies in a new way will make such an advisor much more "life-like" than existing solutions. The special focus on speech recognition and advanced 3D avatar visualisation will be an ideal base for later developments on new upcoming 3G mobile devices.

Computer-Aided solutions to Secure Electronic Commerce Transactions
Project Summary
An essential prerequisite for the prosperous growth of electronic commerce business and electronic government is that the underlying protocols provide the security properties needed. Yet a design and analysis methodology for secure protocols in these areas does not exist.
Thus CASENET will develop methodologies and tools to build secure and reliable protocols for transactions involved in e-commerce and e-government applications. Using the project's results, the protocol generation process will start with the informal specification of the actions and the security requirements. These will be transformed into a formal specification, which will finally be analyzed with respect to the desired security properties. Feedback of the analysis can be used for a redesign of the protocol(s). Moreover, existing protocols already being deployed can be transformed into input appropriate for the tools in order to test their security and reliability. User Trials will evaluate the methodologies and tools.

FULL SPEED
|
Open and Full Speed USB Smart Card
Project Summary (RTD)
With the emergence of broadband system, PC, interactive TV, and GSM become the platforms to access multimedia contents.
PC, interactive TV, and GSM will need a powerful platform such as an Open 32 bits Full Speed multi-protocol Chip Card (OMPCC) to perform cryptographic tasks supporting Public Key Infrastructure, Conditional Access, or Data Right Management. High computing power, and high channel capacity are necessary.
The 32 bit RISC platform will provide the power. The Universal Serial Bus will cohabit with the ISO, EMV, and Multi-Media Card protocols to serve the communication needs. USB will evolve to support “On the Go” initiative by the consumer appliance community.
The "Full Speed" project aims at developing and delivering an innovative solution based on high-speed communication techniques, more powerful Central Processor Unit CPU and Java Operating System to support Multimedia applications requiring high cryptographic calculation capacities. The OMPCC is compatible with ISO and EMV specifications.

Mirror World Communities of Practice for
Learning and Innovation in Natural Science
Project Summary
The objective of the proposed project is to establish a Europe-wide community of practice for learning and innovation in the area of natural science. In order to meet this objective, novel knowledge management techniques in combination with social theories of learning and scientific discourse will be coupled with state-of-the-art information technologies including Internet acceleration and 3-Dimensional multi-user environment. In this framework, MIRROR innovation lies equally in both social and technological components of the project. A partnership of research organizations (academia and museums) and companies (IT and consulting experts) with complementary expertise will produce the innovative MIRROR methodology in knowledge management and a suite of software components to support the MIRROR approach.

Active Knowledge Manager using Dynamic Self-Modifying Knowledge Models
Project Summary
This project is a feasibility study for the original AcKnowNet proposal which proposes to develop and validate an innovative Active Knowledge Networks solution for the capture, integration, management and deployment of knowledge. The solution will use a consistent active mechanism for all phases and for all types of knowledge. The solution will support co-operation, workflow management and co-ordinated planning across extended/virtual organisations and associated value networks enabling pieces of knowledge arriving form different domains and expressed in different forms to interact with and enrich each other. The unique advantages of Active Knowledge Networks paradigm are inherent to its conceptual design. The topology of knowledge networks is explicit and self-contained, and yet extensible by aggregation with other networks. The Active Knowledge paradigm is a dynamic by nature with a fully realised and self-modifiable knowledge representation. As the knowledge evolves new connections are constructed on he fly just as old unused connection can die away.
The partners are considering earthquakes as the specific area for the test case.

Advanced Research on Elliptic and Hyperelliptic Curve Cryptography
Project Summary
The AREHCC project will do research and product development in the field of applied public key cryptography. Main focus is to develop new algorithms to efficiently implement 'Elliptic Curve Cryptography' (ECC) and 'Hyper-elliptic Curve Cryptography' (HCC) on embedded systems such as smart cards and terminal ICs or servers. ECC/HCC offers the advantage of shorter en/decryption keylength and higher inherent performance. On the other hand to fully exploit an effective implementation on smart cards it requires optimisation effort from all disciplines being mathematics, cryptography, soft- and hardware engineering. The present consortium offers all mentioned disciplines at highest reputation level. Currently, patents on the field of ECC prevent the use of this promising technology. It is also aimed to develop solutions not infringing existing patents and further influencing standardisation.

Cyber Tools On-Line Search for Evidence
Project Summary
The project aims to develop and demonstrate a methodology and software tools to enable verifiable evidence of disputed electronic transactions to be captured, stored, analysed, preserved, integrated, and presented. This evidence, proving unambiguously what has occurred, can then be used in various procedures, including mediation, Alternative Dispute Resolution, company disciplinary proceedings, and civil and criminal courts.
The intention of this project is to make it possible, while respecting security and privacy requirements, to produce evidence of disputed electronic transactions which is comprehensible to those called upon to make judgements about the transactions concerned, and is sufficiently reliable and well authenticated to be accepted as proof of an electronic event which has happened. The project will produce:
- a common data format for electronic evidence
- a methodology for assembling evidence in that format
- a methodology for handling such evidence in a provably tamper-proof fashion
- a methodology for the organisation, integration and presentation of evidence
- a prototype set of tools as a demonstrator of the methodologies in a real environment
Security and privacy requirements will be integrated within the methodologies developed.
