@DvANced and high secure mobile platform to support the digital economy
Project Summary
The project will develop and implement a PC-based platform to develop applications based on digital signature and secure payment over UMTS handsets leveraging the bandwidth of this protocol.
The overall solution will be based in X509v3 certificates stored, beside their corresponding private keys, in a crytographic Smart Card.
Finally the project will develop two prototypes to test and asses the @DAN platform.

Intelligent Agents Organisation to Enhance Dependability and Survivability of Large Complex Critical Infrastructure
Project Summary
SAFEGUARD aims to enhance the dependability and survivability of Large Complex Critical Infrastructures (LCCIs), such as distributed electric and telecommunication networks. Modern automation systems underlying LCCIs include different levels of automation, regulation, and control, but "intelligent" functions relating to critical issues such as system dependability and survivability are usually monitored or executed by human operators. SAFEGUARD will improve dependability and survivability of large infrastructures as perceived by all interested parties: the owners, operators and customers.
The main objective of the project is to provide a systemic conceptual framework and an integrated software toolkit that, employed within an intelligent multi-agent system, enhance the dependability and survivability of Large Complex Critical Infrastructures (LCCIs), including the underlining Networked Information Intensive Systems (NIIS).
The Scientific objective is to make a contribution to the development of methods for cohesive interaction of autonomous components such as low level artificial life entities and intelligent cognitive agents and their organisation to maintain system integrity and ensure system survivability. The Technological objectives will be the development of new technologies such as software agent components and their integration, applied to our domain of interest, large-scale electricity distribution networks or telecommunications networks that are also applicable to other Large Complex Critical Infrastructures. These agents will be validated on a test bed.

Towards Handicap Integration Negotiating Knowledge
Project Summary
THINK - Towards Handicap Integration Negotiating Knowledge - is a project that takes into account the many difficulties faced by the physically handicapped in accomplishing full professional integration. Using the methods made available by the new Information and Communication Technologies, mainly through telework, it aims to develop their capabilities, market their services and achieve full professional integration. Key terms are to become productive, profitable and self-sufficient. The main objective is to benefit the social and economic insertion of 300 disabled persons in 29 months in areas such as accounting, translations, word processing, web design, programming and technical assistance for computer systems. The reasoning behind THINK implementation is the broader geographical application of PORCIDE, providing a new perspective of life to the Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, Greek, Scottish, Latvian, Estonian and Lithuanian disabled participants, following a recommendation of the European Council, which envisages a guiding program of the rehabilitation and integration in favour of the disabled persons. [Recommendation R (92) adopted by the Ministers Committee of the European Council in 9 April 1992]. Through partnerships with companies based in those countries and multinationals, TELEMANutenção envisages to export this innovative concept of work environment, conjugating technology and socio-economic concerns, resulting in a transnational revolutionary project. The large corporate companies have a fundamental role in the process, since they will be a significant part of the future clients. THINK features an integrated and flexible approach to the countries participating, enhancing the opportunities for co-operation, showing that telework has no geographical boundaries and that any company or individual, no matter the physical location, has potential to compete and to co-operate nationally as well as internationally.

Fast Track to E&M Payments with Smart Cards
Project Summary
Within the Smart Card Charter of eEurope, the TrailBlazer 5 (TB5) is in charge of e-payments, with the mission of securing all payments using chip cards. The TB5 has defined three axes of work:
1. Synchronize EMV migration across Europe.
2. Encourage e-Euro by adopting CEPS e-purse and its continental roll-out,
3. Accelerate the convergence of smart card based e&m payment methods.
The key objectives of the Smart@pay project are:
to ensure an efficient work of the TB5 by getting good representation in the group and preparing high quality working documents
to establish links with existing bodies having the same objectives- to develop an efficient dissemination program, in and outside Europe
to liaise with the CEPS purse DUCATO pilot, the first European CEPs initiative
to co-ordinate the TB5 activites with other trail blazers- to provide an efficient secretariat throughout the 20 months of lifecycle of TB5
This accompanying measure will provide the leadership, expertise and support to reach the above objectives.

Maritime Intelligent Workplace for weather Information Network, Guidance and Supervision onboard ships
Project Summary
WINGS-FOR-SHIPS aims to develop, demonstrate and validate a new maritime intelligent workplace based weather information system and decision support for maritime transport and other applications. These will be realised by linking fixed/mobile communications with navigation/positioning, efficient transmission and delivery over the network as well geo-information. These services will allow the ship master to have seamless access to, and interaction with intelligent, customised (route based) rich content multimedia information on the efficient and safe navigation passage for passengers, freights and the environment both on board ship and inland. The new and intelligent approach in WINGS-FOR-SHIPS is a decision-support tool looking at forces and stresses on the ship as function of the local, accurate real-time weather information. Prediction models are also included for detailed estimation of weather parameters in local approach routes. The information is finally presented user-friendly in a familiar ECDIS digital chart on board ships, but also via Internet and WAP for shipmasters on land. WINGS-for-SHIPS will include an automatic system including dynamic calculations using ship and sea area models as well as real-time weather information.

Ontology Based Electronic Integration of Complex Products & Value Chains
Project Summary
The OBELIX project sets out to be the first and premier e-business ontology project in the world. OBELIX focuses on researching and providing smart scaleable integration and interoperability capabilities needed in the coming e-business stage of dynamic value constellations (DVCs), characterised by much more complex products and services, supply chains and value networks, and associated electronic market transactions. bThe key to smarter forms of collaborative e-business lies in realising a higher level of machine-understandable semantics in e-business data and processing systems on the Web. Several recent efforts already provide first steps to moresemantics in e-commerce applications (e.g. various XML format standards). OBELIX aims to achieve this, by building upon recent developments towards the next intelligent generation of the WWW known as the Semantic Web.
OBELIX aims to develop an e-business ontology tool suite and library to support smart collaborative e-business and the realisation of innovative applications. The OBELIX tool suite consists of an ontology server providing facilities for editing, component brokering, ontology management, and Web language import and export, plus a number of ontology-based tools including an e-business scenario analysis and simulation tool for DVC models and strategies, an automatic product classifier to speed up application of content management standards, and a multi-product configuration tool for online collaborative design scenarios. In addition, OBELIX will deliver a modular e-business ontology library. The tools will be validated through three e-business applications: e-markets for energy trading and servicing, new digital music value chains and online design of events.
An ontology for e-configuration will be designed, a tool for the automatic classification of electronic Catalogues, and a tool for on-line collaborative configuration of products will be build. Application development stream: Studies and demonstrators: The application studies and trials proposed in the project will be developed. The results will be tested and evaluated to measure the degree of achievement, as well as, to provide feedback for the tool suite developers and the e-business ontology generated. Evaluation and integration of results: Here the final integration of the tools in the tool suite is performed and the results of the project are evaluated.
