VU gradually increases its influence on the shape of the vocal tract thus making many sounds similar in terms of articulatory features. Speech segments are modeled assets of gestures that have their own intrinsic temporal structure allowing them to overlap one way or the other. In the sections on various
stop sounds in world languages, we studied 13 types of stop sounds (i.e., b, pp, b, ɓ, bk, dn, nd, t, t, ts, ts)
and nine types of trill, tap and flap (together one category of approximants) sounds (i.e., r,
ɾ, ɽ, ɹ, ɻ, ʀ, ʁ, ʙ, *) with a range of similarities in terms of their articulatory gestures. These examples show that the articulatory gestures for consonants have a wide range of possibilities of similar sounds in world languages.
