Take some time out to visit two of the most famous places in Greece on a tour devoted to delivering maximum entertainment and insight into the chosen locations: the perfectly proportioned Parthenon and the thoroughly impressive Corinth Canal. After covering the short distance from Piraeus to Athens’ upper city, you’ll pass through the Propylaea Gateway to reach the monument that embodies classical Greece: the Parthenon atop the Acropolis. Dating back to 432 B.C., the imposing Parthenon overlooks and affords gorgeous views of the no less beautiful Temple of Athena Nike, the Erechtheion and Athens’ old town. Next up is the colossal structure of the Corinth Canal. Separating the Peloponnesian peninsula from mainland Greece, the narrow canal was carved out of solid rock and completed in 1893, but only after many and varied obstacles had been overcome. After boarding a local boat in the village of Isthmia, prepare to be awe-struck as you cruise down the canal with perpendicular walls rising steeply to either side. Once back on terra firma, you’ll also have a chance to take some photos from the lofty height of a bridge spanning the canal. Your tour will then draw to a leisurely close with your return drive to Piraeus and your ship.

Please note: the tour includes a long walk on uneven ground and is not recommended for guests with walking difficulties or using a wheelchair. This tour is available only for the calls by MSC Armonia and MSC Fantasia.

KEF01 – PANORAMIC OF REYKJAVIK

Duration: approx. 2.5 hours

This comprehensive sightseeing excursion takes in all the highlights of Reykjavik, the northernmost capital in the world. We will leave the pier and head to the conservation area of Heidmork, crossing the Ellidaar River, which is one of the cleanest metropolitan salmon rivers in the world. En route we will pass the Arbaer Open Air Folk Museum where historic homes from Reykjavik and other parts of Iceland have been recreated in a display of Icelandic life. Our first stop will be at Heidmork to see the Raudholar craters and from where we can admire the surrounding lava fields and the imposing mountain ranges. We will board the bus again and follow the coast road, past Hofdi House where President Reagan and Secretary General Gorbachev held a key summit in 1986. The pretty harbour area will be the site of our main photo stop before we drive past the Hallgrimskirkka Church and the charming old quarter of Reykjavik with its colourful wooden houses and narrow streets. We will stop at the famous rotating “Pearl” Restaurant for a fantastic panorama of the city from the restaurant’s viewing platform. Return to the port.

Please note : limited number of guides in languages other than English. Should a tour guide for your language be unavailable, the tour will be provided in English only.
