Course Description: Art in middle grades emphasizes the transition from elementary school to high school level approaches to art. This includes learning to develop and communicate personal ideas in art, observational drawing, color and painting, self evaluation and habits of mind necessary for success in art production and other areas of life. The course incorporates art history, aesthetics and art criticism into studio-based units.
Evaluation: Students are evaluated on their knowledge of art content as well as the art work produced as a result of instruction. Effort, conduct, achievement and completion are also factors in the grading process.
Materials: Students are required to bring their Art Journal/ Sketchbook and a pencil everyday. These items are mandatory; failure to bring these items will result in a drop of the Class Participation Grade. If there is a scheduled test, there will also be a Journal/ Sketchbook check.
Art Journal/ Sketchbook: Students are required to follow the homework drawing assignment sheet for the 6th Grade Level. This sheet will be kept in the front of your art journal at all times. There will also be assignments done during class time, so the journal needs to be brought to class everyday. Failure to do so will result in the student loosing their break and/or being referred to the PASS program.
Make-Up Work Procedures: Opportunities designed to allow students to recover from a low or failing cumulative grade will be allowed when all work required to date has been completed and the student has demonstrated a legitimate effort to meet all course requirements including attendance. Teachers will determine when and how students with extenuating circumstances may improve their grades.
If any student wants to bring their own supplies(markers, colored pencils etc.) they are more than welcome to.
I have read and understand all the policies and procedures. I agree to keep this page in my Art Journal at all times for reference.
