Enrollment Services

The offices within KSU Enrollment Services offer admission, registration, and financial

aid services to students. Services are handled through three major units designed to meet the

needs of a large and varied student population. These units are:

  • The Office of Admissions

  • The Office of the Registrar

  • The Office of Student Financial Aid

Office of Admissions

The Office of Admissions at Kennesaw State University is the initial contact for enroll-

ment services. Prospective undergraduate students receive admissions information and submit required documents to the Office of Admissions, on the first floor at Town Point. Applicants to graduate programs submit their credentials to the Graduate Admissions Office also on the first floor at Town Point.

Office of Admissions services include admissions counseling processing applications for admission; distributing information requested by prospective students and the community; and visiting high schools, two-year colleges and businesses to discuss the University with prospective students.

To contact the Office of Admissions or to receive up-to-date information on an application, visit the Admissions web site at www.kennesaw.edu/admissions or call 7/423-6300 to reach the 24-hour information line. Interested students may also visit the Office of Admissions and schedule an appointment with an admissions counselor. Admissions and support services for international students are handled by the Office of Global Admissions, Suite 1300, Town Point.

All applicants are encouraged to attend INSIGHT, information sessions held Mondays through Thursdays at 4 p.m. and Fridays at 10 a.m. which includes a campus tour, weather permitting. Call the Office of Admissions to confirm the time and location of INSIGHT.

Office of the Registrar

Registration

All registration at KSU is conducted over the web through Owl Express. There are two

phases of registration at KSU: Early Registration and Registration. The Early Registration phase is available to students who are currently enrolled and in good standing. These students are strongly encouraged to register within the Early Registration phase. The Registration phase is available to new, readmitted, and all currently enrolled students. New students are invited to attend an orientation session where they will have an opportunity to register for classes. A Drop/Add Session is offered to students during the first week of classes. After each registration phase, fees must be paid to avoid cancellation of classes. Please refer to the Schedule of Classes located on the Registrar's website at www.kennesaw.edu/registrar for specific instructions and dates. Undeclared majors must be advised by Student Success Services. Students who have been dismissed must remain out of school as indicated by the dismissal policy.

Verification of Class Schedule

Students should verify their class schedule for each semester enrolled. No course additions/

deletions are permitted after the Drop/Add period has ended. It is the student's responsibility to verify his/her class schedule (including credit hours) on Owl Express for accuracy.

Re-enrollment Policy, Effective Spring 2012

After taking or attempting an undergraduate course for the second time, students will not

be allowed to re-enroll in that class without the permission of the department chair or his/her designee. It is the sole discretion of the department chair/designee to decide if and when a student will be allowed to enroll in a class that they have taken/attempted twice. There is no obligation on the part of the chair to allow a student to enroll in a course after the student's second attempt to take the course. This limitation is in place regardless of previous grades including grades of "W or "WF". The standing exception to this policy is for courses described in the KSU Undergraduate catalog as being repeatable for credit.

Graduation

Undergraduate students should submit a formal petition for the degree through the online

petition process. Login to Owl Express; select Registration and Student Records tab; select Petition to Graduate. Once submitted, the graduation petition process will initiate a petition fee assessment and a final audit of your academic record to determine eligibility toward the degree. Expect four to six weeks for a completed degree audit. Petition status changes are viewable at the Display Petition Status link in Owl Express, and the student will be prompted by email to view status changes in addition to essential audit results and graduation policies.

Graduate students should see their Program Director for the petition to graduate. After the petition to graduate is received by the Office of Registrar, a graduation fee is assessed and a degree audit is completed in four to six weeks, which will be mailed accordingly.

Graduate Diploma Fee: $35.00 Undergraduate Diploma Fee: $30.00

Transcripts

KSU transcripts are issued to students upon request through Owl Express. Transcripts

requested through Owl Express will be mailed or available for pick up by the next business day. Students who have not been enrolled in the past six consecutive semesters must request

transcripts by fax, mail or in person. Transcripts are provided at no charge to the student.
Copies of transcripts from other universities cannot be reissued to the student. When a

transfer student is fully accepted to Kennesaw State University, the Office of Admissions notifies the Office of the Registrar that a transcript has been received. Transcripts are evalu- ated in the order they are received from the Office of Admissions and are completed within 2-3 weeks. Once completed, an evaluation notice will be emailed to the student and transfer credits may be viewed on the Owl Express transcript.

University System of Georgia Regents' Testing Program

The policy of the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia regarding the

Regents' Test is as follows:

It is the responsibility of each institution of the University System of Georgia to assure

the other institutions, and the system as a whole, that students obtaining a degree from that institution possess the basic competence of academic literacy; that is, certain minimum skills of reading and writing. The Regents' Testing Program has been developed to help in the at- tainment of this goal. The objectives of the testing program are: (1) to provide System-wide information of the status of student competence in the areas of reading and writing; and (2) to provide a uniform means of identifying those students who fail to attain minimum levels of competence expected of graduates in the areas of reading and writing.

The Regents' Test

Institutional Policies and Procedures for Regents' Testing Program, General Rule:

All students are required to take the Regents' Test their first semester of enrollment at

Kennesaw State University. Any student who registers for the test, then does not appear to take the test will be charged with a "failure" for the Regents' Test. This places the student

in the position of possibly having to register for Regents' remediation courses prior to

registering for any other coursework. Any student who has not registered for the Regents' Test will have a hold placed on his/her registration and the student will not be permitted to register for classes until he/she signs up to take the Regents' Test.

Online sign up for each testing period is available during registration. Refer to the Stu- dent Success Services website (www.kennesaw.edu/studentsuccess) for complete informa- tion regarding the policies and procedures for the Regents' Testing Program.

Withdrawals

To completely or partially withdraw from classes at KSU, a student must withdraw online at

www.kennesaw.edu, under Owl Express, Student Services. The date the withdrawal is submit- ted online will be considered the official KSU withdrawal date and will be used to calculate any tuition refund or refund to Federal student aid and/or HOPE scholarship programs. It is advisable to print the final page of the withdrawal for your records. Withdrawals submitted online prior to midnight on the last day to withdraw without academic penalty will receive a "W" grade; withdrawals after midnight will receive a "WF" grade. Failure to complete the online withdrawal process will result in no withdrawal from class(es). Contact the Registrar's Office at 7/423-6200 during business hours if assistance is needed.

Students may withdraw from one or more courses at any time prior to the last three weeks of the semester. Students are allowed a maximum of eight total withdrawals. Transfer students are allowed one withdrawal per fifteen credit hours attempted, for a maximum of eight withdrawals. Students who choose to pursue a second degree at KSU are allowed two additional withdrawals. Students who entered KSU before the Fall of 2004 will be allowed one withdrawal per fifteen credit hours attempted for a maximum of eight withdrawals. Stu- dents who officially withdraw from courses on or before the last day to withdraw without academic penalty will receive a "W." Students who officially withdraw after the last day to withdraw without academic penalty (and before the last three weeks of the semester) will receive a "WF," which will be counted as an "F" in calculation of their grade point average.

The only exceptions to these withdrawal regulations are for instances involving unusual
circumstances which are fully documented. Students may appeal to the Academic Standing

Committee for consideration of unusual circumstances.
