The purpose of the course is to compare the various linguistic items in learner's languages (including native and interlanguage) with their correspondents in second language (target language) in order to improve his or her learning, teaching language, and translation.
Subject of contrastive studies
The subject of contrastive studies as mentioned, are polyglots (who know and are able to use several languages) including second languages students, tourists, language teachers, translators, linguists, etc. are the agents of contrastive studies. They are ‘naive’ or professional contrastive linguists. The main focus of the course pays on second language learners and teachers. From this perspective and depending on the purpose of the course, contrastive studies can be interlingual and intralingual.
