Richard W. McLain, Jr., of Millinocket, a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Mr. McLain was born August 12, 1981, in Millinocket, the son of Richard W. and Rebecca A. (Hamel) McLain, and was a 1999 graduate of Stearns High School. He served honorably in the United States Marine Corps for 4 years, from June 2005 to June 2009, and served 2 tours in Iraq. Mr. McLain was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in combat. Glenna M. Armour, of Howland, former longtime town manager. Mrs. Armour was born in Howland, the daughter of George P. and Erma (Mason) Grover, and was a graduate of Howland High School. She married Thomas D. Armour on September 24, 1960, and they had over 40 years together before he passed away on July 29, 2001. Mrs. Armour was a lifelong member of Howland Baptist Church, serving as treasurer for more than 30 years. She went to work for the Town of Howland in July 1972 and became town manager in 1981, serving in that capacity until her retirement in July 2009. the Honorable Theodore H. Heidrich, of Oxford, who represented District 64 for 6 years as a member of the Maine House of Representatives during the 119th-121st Legislatures. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He began working at Copeland's Dry Cleaners when he was 13 years of age, returned to the business after his military service and eventually became the owner, retiring at age 55. He devoted his life to serving his community. Mr. Heidrich was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Norway, First Congregational Church of South Paris, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 18, South Paris and American Legion Post No. 112, Oxford and Marine Corps League Western Maine Detachment. He loved to work in his garden, tend his Christmas tree farm, read and spend time with his family and fellow Marines. Mr. Heidrich will be greatly missed by his family and friends and the many

the Phillips Community Church as it celebrates 175 years of worship in the Union Meeting House. A group of 9 people began meeting in private homes on October 9, 1822. By 1830 there were more than 30 members, and in 1835 they began meeting in the Union Meeting House. The Union Meeting House has served
as a place of worship for several other churches until January 2010, when it became the home of the Phillips Community Church, Congregational, United Church of Christ. The Phillips Community Church serves families in Phillips, Avon and Madrid through Bible Study; Vacation Bible School; home, nursing home and hospital visits; home communion; lunches for senior citizens; a holiday fair; and a special gift shopping day for children. The church also reaches out beyond the community through the work of the Franklin Association Honduras Partnership, the Neighbors in Need fund and school and hygiene kits for Church World Service. Cora L. Tompkins Brown of Portland, businesswoman, patriot and proud public servant, on the occasion of her 100th Birthday, August 21, 2010. Born in Blaine, Ms. Brown graduated from Presque Isle Normal School and taught 4th grade in Aroostook County. Her career as a teacher, dietician, restaurateur and businesswoman spanned over 60 years. She has served the Portland Widow's Wood Society for 75 years, providing heat and help to hundreds in need. Since 1935, she has served the Portland Diet Mission, providing food and assistance to suffering families. In 1997 the Mission was renamed the Cora L. Brown Foundation in her honor. She has served as president of the Church Women United of Maine and was honored with the Church Women's International Award for Valiant Women in 1993. She has served as president of the Greater Portland Business and Professional Women's Club, as parliamentarian for the T.B. Reed National Association of Parliamentarians and as an officer and long-time member of the Deering Grange, the Victoria Mansion Society, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Women's Christian Temperance Union. She has served at the local, county and state levels of her beloved Republican party and has met nearly all of the presidential nominees of her party across the last 60 years. For 70 years she has worked at Portland's polling stations. We honor her achievement of the century mark and her ever-youthful decades of diligence and devotion to the needs of her fellow citizens of Portland, Longfellow's beloved city "that is seated by the sea"; (HLS 1490)
Dr. Jerrold Cohen, of Rumford, on the occasion of his retirement from his 40-year dentistry practice in the River Valley area of Rumford, Mexico and Dixfield. Dr. Cohen has treated over 5,000 people in the area since he began his practice. Dr. Cohen has also served as clinical supervisor at the University of Maine at Augusta, Bangor campus, dental hygiene school and is a member of the State Board of Dental Examiners. Joshua Conley, of Standish, on his recent hard work for the DKMS donor drive in his community on August 14, 2010. DKMS, a New York-based organization, is the world's largest bone marrow donor center. Its mission is to save lives by recruiting bone marrow donors for leukemia patients. In 2007, Joshua received a bone marrow transplant from Aaron Vilhauer, of Nevada, and, because of his own successful experience, Joshua is committed to helping others. Senior Master Sergeant Patrick Crowley and Julie Crowley, of Brunswick, on the occasion of his retirement from the Maine Air National Guard as the Recruiting and Retention Superintendent. Sergeant Crowley is completing 27 years of combined federal service in the Active Duty Air Force and Air National Guard, the last 13 years as a recruiter. A native of Brunswick, Sergeant Crowley joined the Air Force in 1982 and served in Arkansas and Vermont before returning to Maine to join the Maine Air National Guard in South Portland in 1991. At the South Portland unit, Mrs. Crowley became actively involved in the Family Support Program, creating a solid program for all airmen and their families. In 2004, Sergeant Crowley transferred to the top recruiter position in Maine at the state headquarters in Augusta. Freda Webber, of Cape Neddick, on the celebration of her 100th birthday, August 18, 2010. Mrs. Webber graduated from the University of Maine Farmington and taught grades 1 to 4 in Cape Neddick. She and her husband Clifton operated Webber's Market in York Beach. Mrs. Webber had 3 careers in her adult life, teaching, running Webber's Market and selling real estate. Joseph K. Loughlin, Assistant Chief of Police, upon his retirement after 28 years with the Portland Police Department. Assistant Chief Loughlin is the only person in the history of the department to serve in every rank from patrolman to chief. A native of New York, he graduated with a bachelor's degree in science from St. Joseph's College, where he later served as Assistant Dean of Students, and a master's degree from the University of Southern Maine. Assistant Chief Loughlin began his police career in Riverhead, New York, and in 1981 joined the force in Portland, during an era of rapid social challenge and change in Maine's largest city. As commander of the detective division, he frequently handled department communications with local media and was an advocate of street-level community policing. He proudly served as Acting Chief from 2008 to 2009 and as transition liaison for the new Portland Police Department Chief in 2010. An accomplished fiction and nonfiction author, he has written work that has appeared in local and national publications. The nonfiction account that he cowrote of a tragic Maine murder and police investigation that featured then Lieutenant Loughlin, "Finding Amy," was published by the University Press of New England and was named nationally as a

James E. Clark, of Brunswick, formerly of Augusta, an accomplished photographer. Mr. Clark joined the United States Navy and served in the Pacific theater during World War II. After
graduating from the New York School of Photography he served his country in the Korean War as a photographer in the United States Marine Corps. He and his wife, Marjorie, opened James Clark Studio in Augusta and operated it for 52 years. Mr. Clark was very active in the Maine and New England Professional Photographers associations, served on the Board of Directors of the National Photographers Association and was a judge for national portrait competitions. He was active around the Augusta community, serving on the School Board and coaching youth basketball. He was named to the YMCA Kennebec Valley Sports Hall of Fame in 2003 and was named a Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary International for his community service. Justin Douglas Cummings, of Oxford, who has attained the high rank and distinction of Eagle Scout. Veterans for Peace, on the celebration of the 25th anniversary of its founding, and on the occasion of the Veterans For Peace National Convention in Portland, Maine. Founded in Maine in 1985, Veterans For Peace was chartered to oppose nuclear proliferation, to support public education about the costs of war and to end the arms race by fostering the peaceful contact of peoples across the world without regard to borders or partisanship. It has led humanitarian missions around the world to deliver medical and school supplies to the world's war zones and has organized airlifts of injured children to hospitals across America. From its 38 original Maine founders, it has grown to a national organization of over 6,500 members drawn from veterans of both peacetime and wartime service across many eras and from all branches of the United States Armed Forces. Rosine Durgin, teacher and resident of Paris Hill, upon her 100th birthday, October 3, 2010. Rosine Mangillo Stowell Durgin was born in Canton, Maine in 1910. She grew up to become a school teacher, teaching English and Prize Speaking at the Abbott Elementary School in Mexico where her husband, Forrest Stowell, was the Principal. Rosine and Forrest both went on to teach at Mexico High School from 1945 until 1961. She also taught at South Paris/Oxford Hills for 5 years. After Forrest's death, Rosine married Willard Durgin; they moved to Florida but eventually returned to their home on Paris Hill. Rosine touched many young lives throughout her career as an educator. Her dedication to youth and their education is appreciated throughout the State. We send our appreciation and congratulations to Rosine on the 100th anniversary of her birth; (HLS 1503)
Orella Poirier, of Mexico, for her years of exemplary work in helping those in need. Ms. Poirier has collected food, clothes for children, cleaning supplies and children's school supplies for Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charity in Haiti. She also received both products from local businesses and assistance from people around the nation. She has done this for the past 9 years, packing the 1,820 boxes of supplies herself. Ms. Poirier is still able to help by collecting monetary contributions, and from April 2009 to March 2010 she was able to send $1,870. Stuart B. "Stu" Gannett, Sr., of Hollis, beloved husband, father and grandfather. Mr. Gannett was Chair of the Board of Selectmen for the Town of Hollis. He also served on the Budget Committee for many years and was instrumental in the preservation of the Indian Cellar property. Mr. Gannett was a successful entrepreneur and owned and operated several businesses. He was a member of the Cumberland Club, Portland Yacht Club, Hollis Lions Club and Maine Metal Products Association and an active member and Past Master of Buxton Masonic Lodge #115 AF & AM. He loved fishing, snowmobiling, hunting and playing cribbage but most of all enjoyed spending time with his family. Teresa Cecelia Libbey, of Mattawamkeag. Ms. Libbey was born in Carroll on February 5, 1914 to Asa and Annie Stanley. She graduated from Mattawamkeag High School, where she participated in basketball, field hockey and archery. Over the years she was also active in 4-H, Cub Scouts and Little League. Ms. Libbey was a charter member and past president of Hamm-McGinley Post No. 7409 Ladies Auxiliary; past president of P.A.P. Club; a life member of Pine Grove Chapter No. 55, Order of the Eastern Star; a past grand representative and member of Past Matrons Club; a member of the United Methodist Church choir for 35 years; and a member of Mattawamkeag Senior Citizens. Clyde Wallace Billing, of Washington, a longtime businessman in the Augusta area. Mr. Billing was born in Anson and was a United States Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Philippines. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9437 and a 50-year member of the Mt. Olivet Masonic Lodge in Washington. Mr. Billing married Harriett Wellman in 1943, and they were married for 65 years until her death in 2009. Mr. and Mrs. Billing started Washington Garage in 1955, and by 1967 Clyde Billing Inc.'s dealership on Riverside Drive in Augusta was the third-largest Saab dealership in the United States. They added the Subaru franchise at that site, and as the business grew it was relocated to State Street in 1980. In 1989 Mr. and Mrs. Billing shared the Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Achievement Award. James H. Rich, of West Tremont, an esteemed elder of the boatbuilding community in Maine. Mr. Rich was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War. He owned and operated the James H. Rich Boat Yard for 52 years in West Tremont, building, restoring and storing boats. He was one of the last members of a previous generation of wooden boatbuilders. He was a former member of the Knights of Pythias and a former member of the Tremont Harbor Committee. Northern Aroostook Alternatives, Inc., in Van Buren, for the services and support it provides to adults with developmental disabilities and autism. Consumers' needs are met by a well-trained, competent staff that focuses on the independence, individuality and uniqueness of each individual served. In 1983, Jeffrey L. Cake and his wife Laura were hired to develop a philosphy of assistance and therapies for the organization's clients. Since that time the facility has grown to aid a population of up to 50 people, while offering steady employment for 30 community members. Mr. and Mrs. Cake have provided the clients of Northern Aroostook Alternatives, Inc. with loving homes and productive, meaningful community-based day program services.
