Harlan "Bud" Benner, Jr., of Fairfield, beloved husband, father and grandfather. Mr. Benner was born in Dover-Foxcroft in 1922. He served in the United States Army with the 208 Field Artillery Battalion from 1942 to 1946 in Normandy, northern France, Rhineland and central Europe. He later worked at the American Woolen Mill and the Ski-Land Woolen Mill. He was also a firefighter with the Fairfield Fire Department for 41 years, with 25 years as a full-time driver. He and his wife, the former Gladys "Jo" Chamberlain, enjoyed 57 wonderful years together. Mr. Benner will be sadly missed by his loving family, many friends and his community; (IN MEMORIAM) (HLS 1897)

Louise Kiesow, of Augusta, who is retiring as Special Assistant in the House Majority Office. Ms. Kiesow has worked in state government for 26 years. She began her career in the Department of Agriculture in 1979 and came to the Legislature as a Legislative Aide in 1989. She has been a Special Assistant since 2000. Her institutional knowledge and attention to detail have made her an invaluable asset to the House Majority Office for more than 17 years. She is respected and well-liked by all her coworkers and is known for her effective leadership, even under the most trying of circumstances. Louise has filled a niche in the House Majority Office as an ambassador to the County and to the French-speaking delegations and she has been a friend and confidante to many. Daniel Barnett, of Mexico, a member of Boy Scout Troop No. 580, who has attained the high rank and distinction of Eagle Scout. This is the highest award in Boy Scouting and is given for excellence in skills development, personal growth, leadership and community service. James J. Dolan, Jr., of Brunswick, beloved husband, father and grandfather. Mr. Dolan worked as a crossing guard for 17 years for the Brunswick Police Department. He was affectionately known as "Mr. Jim" by the thousands of kids that knew him. He received a commemorative plaque and department coins for his service to the police department. Mr. Dolan served in the United States Navy and was stationed at Quonset Point Naval Air Station in Rhode Island. He was later transferred to the Brunswick Naval Air Station and worked as a civilian firefighter for 26 years. He was a member of the St. Charles Borromeo Church, where he also served as an usher. United States Army Sergeant Corey Dan, of Norway, assigned to the 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He was killed on March 13, 2006 during combat operations near Ramadi, Iraq. Sergeant Dan enlisted in the United States Army after graduating from Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School in 2001. He was known as an optimistic soldier who worked hard, loved his family and enjoyed children. We acknowledge Sergeant Dan's dedicated service, and we recognize the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country. Claudette O'Connell, of Brewer, who is the recipient of the Sister Solange Bernier Lifetime Achievement Award given at the Foreign Language Association of Maine Conference. The award recognizes the accomplishments of those who have demonstrated excellence in teaching and leadership in the teaching profession throughout their careers. Mrs. O'Connell has taught French at Brewer High School for 30 years. She has distinguished herself by serving in leadership roles for professional teacher organizations at the local, state and national levels. She is respected as a knowledgeable teacher. Wendy Libby, of Brewer, an art teacher at the Fruit Street School in Bangor, who is the recipient of the Maine Art Educator of the Year Award given by the Maine Art Education Association. Ms. Libby has taught at the Fruit Street School for more than 30 years and was recognized for her outstanding dedication and service to art education. She has written three books on art education. We extend our congratulations to Ms. Libby on her receiving this award; (HLS 1903)

Tim Rollins, of New York City, for his groundbreaking work in education and the arts and for his work with art students in Maine. Mr. Rollins has made a commitment, as a native son, to return to Maine each year and work with young artists. He studied fine arts and art education at the University of Maine, the School of Visual Arts and New York University. As a special education art teacher in New York City schools, he founded the after-school Art and Knowledge Workshop and the youth-based art-making team Kids of Survival in the South Bronx in 1981. Since 1985, he and Kids of Survival have conducted over 90 exhibitions worldwide and have led over 60 intensive workshops with young people. He has worked with the Maine College of Art and the youth of Maine for the past four years, including in Portland with the after-school theater program, "Company of Girls" in collaboration with Maine College of Art students. They created a master print that was sold to the prestigious Museum of Modern Art in New York City. With 15 students, staff and faculty from the Maine College of Art, Mr. Rollins hosted a workshop for 30 budding artists from the ages of 11 to 15 in Washington County for a rewarding collaborative experience. Jim Craven, of Lewiston, for his special work in Long Beach, Mississippi in helping the Clark family repair their home and grounds, which were devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Mr. Craven went to Mississippi with a group that accompanied his wife, Maine State Representative Margaret Craven of Lewiston, to the area that was destroyed by the disaster. We salute his generosity, energy and compassion and we send him our best wishes; (HLS 1905)

the Conrad family, of Alton, New Hampshire, who went with a group of people who accompanied Maine State Representative Margaret Craven to Long Beach, Mississippi to help the Clark family repair their home and grounds, which were devastated by Hurricane Katrina. The Conrads provided generous use of resources, prayers, hard work and organization that will forever be remembered by everyone involved in the project. We salute them for their commitment to helping others and we send them our best wishes; (HLS 1906)

Jacob Tanguay, of Lewiston, a 15-year-old student who spent his school vacation in Long Beach, Mississippi helping the Clark family repair their home and grounds, which were devastated by Hurricane Katrina. He was with a group that accompanied Maine State Representative Margaret Craven to the area that was destroyed by the disaster. Before leaving for Mississippi, Jacob raised $500 at his school and presented this donation to a person who had lost everything in the hurricane. Jacob worked tirelessly for the entire week. Michael Turgeon, of Auburn, a 17-year-old student who spent his school vacation in Long Beach, Mississippi helping the Clark family repair their home and grounds, which were devastated by Hurricane Katrina. He was with a group of people who accompanied Maine State Representative Margaret Craven of Lewiston to the area that was destroyed by the disaster. Mike worked very hard and with good humor. Rick Varney, of Lewiston, for his special work in Long Beach, Mississippi in helping the Clark family repair their home and grounds, which were devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Mr. Varney was an excellent and primary organizer and team leader of the group of people who accompanied Maine State Representative Margaret Craven of Lewiston to the area that was destroyed by the disaster. Reverend Robert Plummer, of Rumford, who has been recognized by the United Methodist Church of Rumford for his 56 years in the ministry. Reverend Plummer served the United Methodist Church for 12 years before he retired from full-time ministering. He served in the United States Army during World War II in Europe from 1943 to 1945 and then went on to attend Mt. Union College in Ohio and Boston Seminary. For more than 40 years he served as pastor at a variety of Methodist churches throughout the State. Since retiring from full-time ministry, he often fills in during the absence of pastors in Methodist, Congregational and Baptist churches throughout the River Valley, Bethel and Farmington areas. Reverend Plummer is known for having visited every church member in his various congregations at least once, as well as people in hospitals and nursing homes. This is the first state rugby championship for the University of Maine at Farmington. United States Navy Chief Petty Officer Robb W. Ross, of Wilton, who is serving on the maiden mission of the USS Ronald Reagan to Iraq. Chief Petty Officer Ross will be returning from Iraq this summer. We have been blessed with generations of men and women like Chief Petty Officer Ross who have stepped forward in defense of the security of this nation so that we might continue to enjoy liberty and freedom. the Honorable Donald R. O'Leary, Sr., of Mexico, a longtime member of the Maine State Legislature, who served in both the Maine House of Representatives and the Maine Senate. Mr. O'Leary was a United States Navy veteran of World War II in which he served as an Aviation Metalsmith, 3rd Class. He was employed by Boise Cascade Paper Company in Rumford for over 34 years until his retirement in 1982 as a lab technician. He was president of his union. Mr. O'Leary was active in state and local politics until his death and attended many Democratic state conventions. He most recently served on the planning board and as a Selectman for the Town of Mexico. He also served as Oxford County Treasurer. Mr. O'Leary was a member of Napoleon Ouellette Post #24 of the American Legion and a member of the Rumford Falls Aerie #1248, FOE. Obeline Waugh, of Mexico, on the celebration of her 100th birthday, June 8, 2006. Mrs. Waugh and her husband William were married for 57 years. They raised 4 children of their own: Jacqueline, Kenneth, Eugene and Wilfred; a daughter, Jeannette that William brought into the marriage and Mrs. Waugh's brother's daughter, Edith. She is an outstanding lady. When she and her husband built their home, she learned how to mix cement and built the whole chimney by herself. At the age of 85, she went parasailing in Cancun, Mexico and jet-skiing in Aruba and at the age of 90 she flew in a hot air balloon. Her biggest regret is that her doctor would not let her go skydiving on her 95th birthday. the members of the Nokomis Regional High School Show Chorus, of Newport, who won first place and a Gold Rating in Division I Show Chorus at the Maine State Vocal Jazz Festival. The Chorus is under the direction of Kent Higgins and Lisa Neal and performed a medley of songs from "The Lion King." Singers include Allison Burr, Taylar Donaldson, Rachel Gordon, Courtney Graves, Caitlyn Jewell, Ashley Raymond, Ashley Small, Arielle Southard, Angela Thibeault, Hannah Tucker, Alyssa Brewer, Alecia Bridge, Megan Curtis, Ann Leavitt, Michelle McLemore, Brittany Neal, Ashley Perry, Susannah Sacks, Kristin Seavey, Vanessa Tremblay, Tom Clukey, Joe Meyers, Ben Nadeau, Andrew Nickerson, James Reiss, Will Vile, Matt Graham, Shawn Graves, Justin Leavitt, Brad McIntyre, Nolan Southard, Steve Shea, Taylor Smith and J.C. White. The chorus also received the Outstanding Rhythm Section Award. Marcia Feller, of Yarmouth, who is the recipient of a 2006 Governor's Award for Business Excellence for outstanding service to employees and to the community. In 2000, Ms. Feller opened a women's clothing store in Falmouth, Couleur Collection, which coordinates its clothing by color and dedicates its wall space to original works of art by emerging artists from Maine and around the country. She partners her company with nonprofit organizations to promote fund-raising efforts and she donates a percentage of sales to the organizations. Employees are encouraged to attend in-store workshops and can submit merchandise and input to Ms. Feller for purchase consideration. They are also treated to flexible work hours, dinners and outings in place of staff meetings and massages during the holiday season. Thomas F. Verrill, of Auburn, upon his retirement from Monmouth Academy. Mr. Verrill served as an Industrial Arts teacher at Monmouth Academy for 37 years. David S. Heckman, of Monmouth, upon his retirement from the Monmouth school system. Mr. Heckman served as a mathematics teacher for 41 years and also stepped forward to serve as basketball and tennis coach.
