3.2.3 Front Splitter/Air Dam The main function of the front splitter and air dam is to aid in optimization of the flow of air to the rest of the car to reduce drag, and it also create negative lift to aid the front tires to get more grip and reduce under steer tendencies. The front splitter is attached to the bottom of the air dam to increase the amount of downwards force at the front of the car. Airflow is brought to stagnation above the splitter by the air to dam create an area of high pressure. In addition, the air is accelerated and redirected away from the stagnation point that causes the low pressure [19]. According to Bernoilli’s effect, this pressure difference creates the downwards force. This device can be made from fiberglass, carbon fiber and plastics.
