The above question was only answered by respondents who ticked yes to question 7 which seeks to know if an individual knows about source separation of waste. Hence the responses to question ‘7’ are extrapolated to questions ‘8’ and ‘9’. Since majority ticked no to question ‘7’, there were more respondents for question ‘9’ than question ‘8’. Some respondents who practice source separation keep pet bottles aside for sale to traders who in turn sell them to local plastic recycling industries while some others separate food waste for use as manure in their little garden

36 or as food for their domestic pets. Some other respondents in a bid to avoid the foul odour from food waste, throw such food remnant on the streets for stray domestic pets in their neighbourhood. Generally, in the study area, 40% (translates to 11% of n) of those who claim to know about waste separation from source have never separated their waste.
