What is an IT Professional
A person engaged in IT related work for an IT supplier, telecommunication vendor, user or government organization. He she must be employed by the organization on a full-time/ part-time basis, either as permanent or direct contract staff, working in the local organization or stationed overseas.
The work of a person may include the following
1. The development, distribution, implementation, support and operation of telecommunication, computer, hardware/software and multimedia content
1. The provision of information services to end-user;
2. The dissemination of IT knowledge and skills or
3. The management of the above processes.
IT Professional Ethics - is afield of applied ethics concerned with moral issues that impact computer professionals.
Computer professional - anyone who is employed in the computer, information technology, or information/communications fields. Profession is a calling that requires specialized knowledge and long and intensive academic preparation.
IT Professional Organizations Most prominent organizations include
 Association for Computing Machinery (ACM)
 Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP)
 Computer Society of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers
(IEEECS)
 Project Management Institute (PMI)

College of Engineering and Architecture Computer Engineering
CpE Laws and Professional Practice
Certification - Indicates a professional possesses a particular set of skills, knowledge, or abilities in the opinion of a certifying organization. It can be applied to products and generally voluntary and carries no requirement to adhere to a code of ethics.
Vendor certifications - some certifications substantially improve IT workers salaries and career prospects. It is relevant for narrowly defined roles or certain aspects of broader roles. It requires passing a written exam and workers are commonly recertified as newer technologies become available.
