A play based on Sophocles’ Oedipus Rex. In this 20-minute version, Oedipus recently becomes king of Thebes and tries to cure the Green Plague while hubristically wielding his newfound power. Presented by The Hypocrites, Oedipus is an adapted play that is part of a modern Festival of Dionysus called All Our Tragic. All Our Tragic is a twelve-hour long adaptation featuring contemporary versions of the thirty-two surviving Greek tragedies compiled into a single epic narrative.

The Greeks are eager to sail to Troy to start fighting, but their ships won’t sail until a prophet foretells that Agamemnon will kill his daughter Iphigenia. Agamemnon sends for Iphigenia under the pretense of a wedding with Achilles, but theirs is a fate not so pleasant, as marriage awaits Iphigenia.

This exhibition explores the many layers of her story, as witnessed in Zakoian’s autobiographical artworks, to understand the story behind the paintings, to discover the truth of a forgotten or covered up history.
