GENERAL CORRESPONDENCE 1885-1940.

This correspondence is primarily in chronological order by the date of Wickersham's copy letter or date of letter received that may not have a reply on file. However, Wickersham would sometimes group his correspondence with an individual together, so the date sequence is then irregular. Various documents and legal papers are often filed with correspondence. There are overlapping files of correspondence in binders and the unfiled correspondence has been placed in folders in Box 8. When correspondence was removed from binders in Boxes 9-14, items were numbered per Wickersham order. Subject files were established for correspondence concerning politics and elections; Alaska home rule; Alaska railroads; Alaska freight and passenger tariffs, rate cases and investigations and other topics.

Appendix 1 consists of a table listing box number, name, place of origin, title or position and date for correspondence in Boxes 8, 14, 28, 60, 62, 65, 66, and 73. Other correspondence in boxes 27, 29, 31, 34, 35, 41, 47, 48, 50, 56, 61 and 75 may be included in the future.
BOX 8. Letters received/sent. 1890-1919.
