AB - ABSTRACT: The gold-bearing sulfide ores of the Frontino mine district, Colombia, occur in a granodiorite stock in the northeast part of the Antioquia batholith, emplaced in lower Paleozoic limestones and schists. Mineralization is believed to have been controlled by the intersection of major northwest- and northeast-trending fracture systems. Locally, impounding has taken place as a result of the presence of pre-mineral faults, and impoverishment in certain tightened fractures.

AB - ABSTRACT: During the Cretaceous conditions were favorable for the formation of oil-bearing sediments in the outer edge of the continental shelf bordering the Guiana shield. The favorable area is more widely developed in northwestern Venezuela (and northeastern Colombia) than in central and eastern Venezuela. Deposition took place in a basin characterized by a series of topographic highs and troughs, which was later block faulted. Petroleum accumulations in Tertiary reservoir rocks of the Llanos, Maracaibo, and other basins are considered to have migrated from Cretaceous source rocks. Both preservation of source rocks and migration of oil are believed to have been tectonically controlled.

AB - ABSTRACT: Very large caves have been discovered in a soft, fine-grained sandstone layer in the upper Guadalupe sandstone (Cretaceous) of the Cunday region, Colombia. Their formation is attributed to removal of rock particles by flowing ground waters rather than to chemical solution. Stalactites and stalagmites of calcite and phosphate minerals are found. Parts of the walls and floor are also covered with phosphate minerals (francolite, collophane), and a mineral related to evansite (or rosieresite) has been identified.
