AB - ABSTRACT: The tectonic evolution of the San Jacinto fold belt comprises an extensional and several compressional events that affected the continental margin of northwestern South America during the Cenozoic: extension with rift or graben infill from Late Cretaceous to Early Eocene, a Middle Eocene inversion, Late Eocene uplift, a relatively quiet period during the Oligocene, Middle Miocene deformation and a Pliocene - Pleistocene period of folding and faulting. This evolution is related to the development of the Caribbean plate and its interaction with the Cocos, Nazca and South American plates. Inversion and reactivation were mostly controlled by the orientation of the pre-existing normal fault planes. These deformational episodes are recorded by several unconformities (Lower Eocene, Middle Eocene, Upper Eocene, Lower Oligocene, Middle Miocene and Upper Pliocene). Structurally, the San Jacinto fold belt is composed of a series of northeasterly trending folds, reverse and normal faults. Restoration of two seismic lines corroborates the proposed model.

AB - ABSTRACT: The aim of this work is to study biostratigraphy and foraminifera of the Upper Cretaceous sediments (Turonian-Maestrichtian) of middle reaches of the Magdalena River, Columbia. Foraminifera were distinguished with the help of a standard procedure designed for solid terrigenous rocks and were studied under an electronic microscope. Eight sections are described. Thirty-six planktonic and 30 benthic foraminifera were examined and described in the monograph. For the first time, 9 microfaunal complexes and 7 zones based on plankton foraminifers were established for this region. The age of local lithostratigraphic units were refined and correlated. Paleoecological interpretation of foraminifer complexes was carried out on the qualitative base, and on its basis, the depositional environment was characterized.

AB - ABSTRACT: Colombia has ample soil diversity related to its varied and contrasting Natural Regions and environmental conditions. The article typifies those soils with the highest evolutive development that tend to reflect pedological climax state in each Natural Colombian Region. Entisols and Inceptisols genesis was not considered due, both, to their ubiquitous presence in the country and low evolution development. The article initially analyzes the integral Colombian soil knowledge derived from the interaction of it's soil factors and processes, and concludes with its environmental relationships between Natural Colombian Regions.

AB - ABSTRACT: The crust is not a uniform and homogeneous mass. It is a rock issue with different origin and nature. This is why they could be distinguished by their mechanical and structural properties which makes them to respond in a particular way when a seismic wave travels through. The author proposes a geophysical analysis of the earthquake occurred on January 25 of 1999 at the "Eje Cafetero" in Colombia which includes the propagation speed quantification of the P wave in nonhomogeneous crust and the comparison with the results obtained in homogeneous crust.

AB - ABSTRACT: In this paper a model is studied in which it is possible to analyze the theoretical solution of wave movement produced by a generator of waves. This generator is designed for working in a metallic channel of determined dimensions. In one extreme of the channel we built a cupslope with and without protections of initial geometry and with different materials (thick middle-sized, fine sand and slime-sandy), the cupslope was submitted to the action of different waves and to a pursuit in the time, until to arrive at the profile of balance. Also, we studied the process of erosion on the low part as soon as the formation of a neutral point or the "Cornaglia".

AB - ABSTRACT: The Rio Claro Mining Concession of SUMICOL S.A. is located at Southeast of the Antioquia Department in the eastern flank of the Cordillera Central. The area comprises 9 km (super 2) and lies in the jurisdiction of the municipalities of Sonson, San Francisco, San Luis and Puerto Triunfo. The geomorphology is characterized by the contrast between a north-south oriented karst landscape and a metamorphic mountain range. Geochemically the calcareous marbles of the Rio Claro Concession are divided into two blocks with very different industrial applications called, the North Block, with an average content of CaO: 50,5%, MgO: 1,55%, SiO (sub 2) : 5,78% and Fe (sub 2) O (sub 3) : 0,05%, characterized as a very good raw material for the cement and construction industries; and the South Block with high purity calcareous material with possible application in the glass and ceramic industries and as industrial filler, with the following concentrations: CaO: 55,6%, MgO: 0,41%, SiO (sub 2) : 0,24% and Fe (sub 2) O (sub 3) : 0,01%. The proven resources of calcareous marble are: 172,000.000 tons for the North Block and 215,000.000 tons for the South Block, with a total of 387,000.000 tons for the whole area of the Rio Claro Concession which assures wide areas of exploitation for the company.
