THE FISHING CORNER by Bob Banet It’s almost the end of summer and it’s been a fishless season. All sorts of reasons have been discussed but in the end, it’s up to the fish. Fluke had lots of fishing pressure with some success but also lots of shorts. Seabass didn’t seem to show up in the size or numbers of last year’s season, although there were a few keepers to be taken. With fluke season closed as of September 21st and the opening of the Blackfish Fall season on October 10th, there might be some salvation for the season. In past years, porgies were big and a frequent catch while in pursuit of a blackfish limit. Congratulations to Waucoma and City Point on sharing the Bluefish Tournament Trophy this year and to all who participated in the festivities. With a Blackfish Tournament coming soon on Sunday October 18th, keep that lucky rabbit’s foot handy. We sure need it this year! Good luck for the rest of the season.
