SCHOLARSHIPS & AWARDS


  1. An entrant who has not complied with the Festival rules is not eligible to receive an award.

  2. All awards are awarded at the discretion of the adjudicators and the Festival Awards Committee.

  3. Medals and/or trophies will be awarded to those groups or individuals who, in the opinion of the adjudicators, have distinguished themselves by the excellence of their performance.

  4. Festival winners will be announced by the Festival Committee at the Final Concerts.

  5. Scholarships may be awarded to deserving students to help further their studies at Summer Music Camps. As well, a graduate Scholarship may be awarded yearly to a student going on to study in the field of Music. For further information on these scholarships, please contact Francis Malley at 622-8228.

ADJUDICATORS

AMBER BISHOP – VOCAL & CHORAL
Amber Bishop has performed extensively throughout the US, Europe, the Middle East and Canada. Ms Bishop has performed leading roles in La Traviata, The Bartered Bride, Carmen, and La Bohème with Tapestry New Opera Works, Opera Markham, Toronto Operetta Theatre, Nova Scotia Symphony, Opera in Concert and Drayton Symphony Orchestra, Maritime Concert Opera. Being a versatile artist Ms Bishop has also had the opportunity to work in the field of Musical Theatre, Pélagie,(world premier) Sweeny Todd,(Dora recipient) Moll, Canadian Stage Company Unsung Cole, Theatre Collingwood and A Chorus Line.
Ms Bishop holds a Bachelor of Arts from Dalhousie University, Performance Diploma from the University of Toronto, a Masters in Opera Performance from the highly regarded Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music and a Bachelor of Education from the University of New Brunswick. Presently Ms Bishop is the Music Teacher for Oromocto High School for School District 17.

TANYA BOSTICK – PIANO
Tanya began studying music at age 6. Following completion of her Bachelor of Music at Mount Allison University in 1996, (piano, education) Tanya embarked on a career in teaching grades K-12 Choral, Instrumental and General Music while teaching private piano.
In 2004, Tanya established the Bostick School of Music with her husband, Shawn Bostick. She currently teaches Music for Young Children, Private Piano and MusicPups there. Several of her students have placed in the Music for Young Children International Composition Festival, composing pieces for solo piano. She also enjoys running various summer camp programs at the school for a wide variety of ages and ability levels. Tanya has enjoyed her time as instructor (2008-2009) at the Universite de Moncton Classical Camps (piano).
In addition to Piano, Vocal/Choral and Instrumental Adjudicating, Tanya is also a regular presenter to Piano Pedagogy and Elementary and Secondary Methods students at post-secondary level, along with speaking at various Professional Development Seminars for Music Educators in Southeastern New Brunswick.
Tanya belongs to the Canadian Music Educators Association; the Nova Scotia Music Educator’s Association and is an active member of the Sackville Music Teachers Association, a branch of the New Brunswick Registered Music Teachers Association. She performs regularly in a variety of genres and venues as accompanist, soloist and as an ensemble performer. Tanya looks forward to meeting and working with youth at this festival!
ALAN KLAUS – INSTRUMENTAL
Alan Klaus was born in London, Ontario and began trumpet lessons at the age of 16.  While earning his BMus with distinction from the University of Calgary, he received scholarships for performance, academics, and athletics (cross country and track & field).  After completing a MMus at the University of Western Ontario, Klaus began doctoral studies in trumpet performance at the Florida State University in 2007 where he also taught applied trumpet, formed and directed the FSU brass choir, and coached chamber music.  Klaus joined the Department of Music at Mount Allison University in fall 2008 and teaches applied brass, brass methods, brass choir, chamber music, brass literature, and aural skills.  
Klaus has appeared throughout the Maritimes and Alberta in recital and as a clinician.  He will be the featured soloist with Scotia Brass at the 2010 Atlantic Band Festival in Halifax.  Klaus has performed with the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra London (Canada), the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, the World of Winds, the International Youth Wind Orchestra, the National Youth Band, the National Concert Band, and won numerous solo competitions.  Major teachers include Dr. Christopher Moore, Roger Zacks, and Howard Engstrom.  Klaus has also studied with Vincent Cichowicz, Jens Lindemann, James Thompson, Larry Knopp, Alain Trudel, and others.

ANGELA HOWE – DANCE

Angela Howe is originally from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, and has been dancing since she was two and a half years old. Her love of dance was the reason she became a teacher of tap, ballet, and jazz through the Doris MacDonald Dance Academy, where she successfully completed exams from the British Association of Teachers of Dancing. When she was a teenager, she became involved in Highland Dancing, where she became a competitive Highland Dancer and performed with the Breton Batherson Dancers, traveling across Canada and the United States.


After moving to the Miramichi, she connected with Ann Landry, a fellow Cape Bretoner and founder of the Landry School of Dance. Under Ann's guidance, Angela became a member of the Scottish Dance Teachers' Alliance. Since a young age, Angela has also participated in the Royal Conservatory of Music for piano. She has a Bachelor of Science Degree from St. Francis Xavier University, a Bachelor of Education Degree from St. Thomas University, and a Master of Science Degree in Special Education from Southern Connecticut State University. Currently, she is employed as a Consultant for Exceptionalities for School District 16, and has been involved in choreographing musicals for the Miramichi Valley High School Drama Club.
