Small Packet


Small packet is a small item of merchandise sent by post. It includes anything which is not prescribed as postal parcel.

Only the international small packet service is available. There is no domestic small packet service available.

Dimensions :

Maximum : Its width, length and height combined must not exceed 900 mm., but its greatest dimension must not 600 mm. (+/- 2 mm.)

In roll form, its length plus twice the diameter must not exceed 1,040 mm., but the greatest dimension must not exceed 900 mm. (+/- 2 mm.)
Minimum : 90 x 140 mm. (+/- 2 mm.).
In roll form, its length plus twice the diameter must not be less than 170 mm., but the greatest dimension must not be less than 100 mm. (+/- 2 mm.).

Weight Limits :

The maximum weight of the small packet is 2,000 g.

Postal Parcel


Postal parcel is a packet sent by post to domestic and overseas destinations.

Dimensions :

Maximum : Each side must not exceed 1,500 mm. The sum of the length and the greatest circumference measured in a direction other than that of the length must not exceed 3000 mm. (+/- 2 mm.)
Minimum : 90 x 140 mm. (+/- 2 mm.)
In roll form, its length plus twice the diameter must not be less than 170 mm., but its greatest dimension must not be less than 100 mm. (+/- 2 mm.)
Weight Limits :

The maximum weight of the postal parcel is 20 kg.

However, the size and weight limits allowed to some countries may not follow the aforementioned regulation. Certain countries may only accept 5 or 10 kg., some will accept 30 kg.

Certified Mail


Certified mail is a service through which an ordinary letter-post item is accepted and delivered with proofs of acceptance and delivery.

In case of damage and loss by fault of postal service, the CAT will refund the sender according to the certified mail regulation (Maximum 100 ฿ Domestic).

How to apply for the service :

It can be applied for any ordinary mail item posted through a CAT officer at a post office or collected by a CAT officer at the sender's premise (a special agreement with the CAT required.)

It can be used together with other special services such as express delivery, advice of delivery etc. (except Registered Mail and Insured Mail).

The limit of size, weight, packing and addressing of the certified mail comply with the regulation of each postal service type.

The additional conditions are as follows :

In case of a letter, it must be well packed and its envelope must not be torn. As for a sealed envelope, there must be no evidence that the envelope is reopened prior to accepting process.

If certified mail is sealed with glued tape, a sender has to sign or put a seal with his signature onto the tape.

The letter-post item having an address written with pencil or composed of initials shall not be admitted for certified mail.

However, the address of item other than those which are in envelopes with transparent panels may be written in copying-ink pencil.

The word "CERTIFIED" must be present at the top left-hand corner, beneath the sender's address, or in case of items in the form of postcards, above the address in such a way as not to affect its legibility.

The sender must fill the acceptance form and attach it to the certified mail. The form is returned to the sender as proof of posting after completion of accepting process.

Registered Mail


Registered mail is a service through which a letter-post item is accepted, transferred and delivered with proof of acceptance, transfer and delivery.

In case of loss and damage by fault of postal service, the CAT will refund the sender according to the Registered Mail regulation (Maximum 200 ฿ Domestic, 30 SDR International).

How to apply for the service :

It is applied for any letter-post item posted through a CAT officer at a post office or at the sender’s premises services.

It can be used together with other special services such as express delivery, and advice of delivery, etc. (except certified mail and Insured Mail).

The limits of size, weight, packing and addressing of the registered mail must be complied with the regulation of each postal service type.

The additional conditions are as follows :

In case of the letter, it must be well packed and its envelope must not be torn.

Insured Mail


Insured Mail is an extra service designed for a greater security in mailing valuable letter or postal parcel in each and every process.

The CAT will refund the sender according to the Insured Mail regulation if that letter or postal parcel is damaged or lost (Maximum 5000 ฿ Domestic, 51’279 ฿ International).

How to apply for the service :

It is applied for any letter-post item posted through a CAT officer at a post office or at the sender’s premises services(special agreement required).

This service can be used together with other special services such as express delivery, advice of delivery, etc. (except certified mail and Registered Mail).

The limits of size, weight, packing, and addressing must be the same as those of the certified mail and the Registered Mail.

As for international Insured Mail of a letter or a postal parcel, the amount of insured value must be expressed in SDR with Roman lettering and Arabic figures, without erasure or alteration at the side or below Thai Bath.

The amount in SDR shall also be underlined.[ Note: The SDR is the unit of account of the International Monetary Fund. ]

As for domestic Insured Mail of a letter or postal parcel, the value of Insured Mail must be indicated in both number and letter forms above the recipient's address.

The Insured Mail service is available at every post office (except mobile post office) and some licensed post offices.

The international Insured Mail service is available for some particular countries which have agreement with the CAT.
