Activities performed:The scopes of work included Leading the team in planning the work and organizing the team in undertaking: (1) Research of existing information, data collection, and field visits for the entire 165 kms of the Yevlakh to Georgian Border (via Zagatala) Road. (2) Analysis of the current country environmental framework and conditions of the study area where the road alignment was situated. (3) Conducted public consultation in Zagatala City (08 April 2008) on the proposed rehabilitation schemes to obtain further inputs in the design. (4) Consultation with the relevant authorities (MOT and MENR) on implementation procedures and policy development for transport strategies. (5) Description of relevant legislative and regulatory provisions, including design and review of environmental & transport programs. (6) Identification of project related impacts. (7) Proposal of appropriate preventive measures for the projected impacts. (8) Design of Mitigatory and compensatory measures to minimize impacts, with validation with the stakeholders in a public consultation. (9) Elaboration of cost estimates and financing important mitigating measures. (10) Preparation of an environmental protection report included an Environmental Impact Assessment, an Environmental Management Plan, and Environmental Monitoring. (11) Actual training of local counterpart as well as capacity building of local and national officials on Environmental Assessment
