2686. Photograph) Klondike. MASTODON SKULL. Yukon Territory, 1904. Photographic Image. Not a book. Original photograph, 6/38" x 8/ 1/2". Black & white tending toward sepia. Photo of three unidentified gentlemen (likely miners) standing behind a mastodon skull & impressively curved tusks still firmly and symetrically rooted in the skull. Printed in white at the bottom is the following: "copyright applied for". "Discoverys (sic) of Mastondon head uncovered at a depth of 42 feet on 5 below _____ Discovery." "Quartz Creek Y.T. March 5 1904 Length of 4 feet width 2 feet 4 inches Tusks 7 feet 6 inches" "W. (Phello?) Photo". The photo is worn with creases, stain on back, & a one inch tear at the top.
