Heartbreak Hotel

by Deborah Moggach

Read by Ella Marks
This is a delightful, gentle story centred round Myrtle House, the Heartbreak Hotel of the title. It has been bequeathed to Buffy, an elderly actor whose acting life and many marriages are foundering in London. Myrtle House, in a small, remote Welsh town becomes the point from which his life takes off again. Having viewed his newly acquired somewhat rundown property, and with no capital behind him, Buffy embarks on a plan that will rejuvenate the hotel, and bring him the company he craves. He plans to run practical courses at the hotel for singlw people, who like himself, lack practical skills, such as car maintenance and gardening. He will thus generate an income and manage to get his garden tamed and his car maintained. The courses prove to be taken by a very mixed bag of characters that do, or do not manage to fall for each other. There is no violence, ubt some very delicate sex and strong language. A happy book.

Hitler's Canary

by Sandi Toksvig

Read by Ita Rubin (1 Cd)

This is the extraordinary story of the courage of ordinary Danes, rallying to save their Jewish countrymen from deportation and extermination under the noses of their Nazi occupiers. Beautifully observed, written with wit and warmth, here is a truly life-affirming book, worthy of the courage of those great and good Danes who took part. This book is fiction inspired by fact, but it contains the message that in the rescue of the Danish Jews not all the Germans were bad, and not all the Danes were good.
