This is the idea behind the rock cycle (see Figure 6). For example, under certain geophysical processes, a metamorphic rock can be formed from a sedimentary and/or igneous rock. Likewise, all rocks can become every other type of rock given the right circumstances. The rock cycle describes the processes that allow the creation of new rocks from old rocks.
