Semantics
1.2
Language is Linear
When the sounds of language are produced, they are treated by successive movement of the speech organs, that is we can represent language by using symbols. for each distinct sound and arranging them in linear order. In writing we usually have a left-to-right order.
1.3
Language is Systematic
The structure of language is based on phonological and grammatical system. It means that the units are limited that can combine in a limited number of ways. Like in the word table we can put a suffix and prefix the word to the word ; tables and stables, but we can’t put a suffix to the word stable nor is there a single sound or sound sequence that we can put a suffix to the words tables and stables to result in accepted in English.
