SENIOR LEADERS ARE SAYING

Whether on patrol or in the operations centers, every Soldier I came into contact with had a positive, 'can do' attitude. It's a reflection that they really know what they are doing. It has a positive effect on everyone.

TODAY'S FOCUS

Army Community Services (ACS)

Army Community Services (ACS) facilitates the commanders' ability to provide comprehensive services that support the readiness of Soldiers, civilian employees, and their families, including adapting available services to the unique needs of each installation.

* The Army is committed to providing a full range of essential services to Soldiers and their families to ensure resiliency, family preparedness, improve readiness, and support recruitment and retention. Family Readiness Program Support reduces family tension by training and properly preparing Soldiers and family for deployments and reunions.

* ACS and Reserve Component Family Programs support the expeditionary force by promoting self-reliance and satisfaction with military life through prevention, education, and training which aids Soldier retention, readiness, morale and family preparedness. The core family programs include Financial Readiness, Emergency Assistance, Exceptional Family Member Program, Employment Readiness, Family Advocacy, Emergency Placement Care, Information and Referral, Outreach, Deployment/Mobilization programs, Army Family Team Building and Army Family Action Plan. Also includes services for Family Readiness Groups, Army Emergency Relief, Transition Assistance, and installation volunteer support.

* Family Readiness Programs are the principal readiness support agencies for family members and commanders in meeting the units' family readiness mission by training Family Readiness Group leaders and Rear Detachment commanders. The Army family programs delivered by ACS are garrison based programs that help families respond to transitions such as relocation, separations and deployments, that alleviate the everyday stressors associated with military life.

* The Army will continue its commitment of ensuring that both Soldiers and their families are prepared, self-sufficient and supported during times of increasing deployments and changes brought by a transforming Army. Programs such as the Army Spouse Employment Program will support spouses with employment and career opportunities while families who are geographically dispersed will have better communication and support via the Virtual Family Readiness Groups. Partnerships with local Better Business Bureaus will build links to the communities to support families during longer duty stations.

* With quality of life one of the overarching aspects of today's Army, the Army is dedicated to the well-being of its Soldiers, families, and civilian workforce. ACS programs support the Army's readiness and retention by ensuring that Soldiers and their families are better able to cope with the demands the Army places on them.
