Duration: approx. 7.5 hours, lunch not included

Join us on a scenic full-day panoramic tour that will takes you on a journey by coach, train and boat through the stunning scenery of the Lake District one of the most popular National parks in the UK. You will experience the unique trip on a steam train on the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway and a cruise of Lake Windermere. Leaving the port, you will head north for the Lake District National Park, a stunning area of scenic mountains – named “fells” - broken up by beautiful valleys – named “dales” - many of which are the location of lovely lakes. Arriving at Haverthwaite, you will board the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway steam train for a trip through this beautiful scenery catching our first view of Lake Windermere, the largest of the lakes. Disembarking the train at lakeside, you will transfer to a Windermere Lake Cruises pleasure craft for a lovely cruise around this wonderful stretch of water, the town of Bowness-on-Windermere, the centre for most of the boating activity on the lake. In Bowness, you will have free time for lunch, shopping or further exploration of this delightful town. Re-boarding the coach, you will follow the road as the rugged scenery gives way to more rolling farmland, criss-crossed by dry stone walls and dotted with sheep, before returning to Liverpool Docks and the ship.

LVP04 – THE WALLED CITY OF CHESTER & PORT SUNLIGHT

Duration: approx. 4 hours, 15 minutes

This tour will take you to the beautiful walled city of Chester, one of Europe’s top heritage cities, with roots dating back to the Romans. After a panoramic tour, you will enjoy some free time, before exploring the enchanting Port Sunlight, just outside of Liverpool. First settled by the Romans almost 2,000 years ago, Chester boasts one of the UK’s most complete circuits of city walls, with sections dating back to the Roman times. The city has a fascinating history; it was sacked by the forces of William the Conqueror and besieged by the Roundheads during the English Civil War as well as being an important stop on the trade routes to Ireland. There are many buildings of interest to see in the city, including the remains of a Roman Amphitheatre, and the medieval Cathedral. Probably the most famous area of the city centre are the shopping arcades known as the Rows. These unique two-tiered galleries date from Tudor times and are excellent examples of traditional black and white half-timbered architecture. Following a short panoramic tour of the city by coach and a short walking tour of the city centre, you will have free time to explore these arcades to browse the numerous little shops, or perhaps visit some of the fascinating historical museums or even just stroll around the city walls taking in the delightful views. Leaving Chester, pause at Port Sunlight, a model village, built by the Lever family for their soap factory workers in order to provide decent accommodation, education, entertainment and welfare. Here we enjoy some free time before returning to the ship in Liverpool.
