ACI Guide

The ACI guide outlines every major city in the US, what airport the cartage agent will service it from, and what is denoted as the ACI “area” which is alphabetical. The higher down the alphabet the letter is, the farther the city is from the airport and the higher the cost for pickup or delivery. This guide also shows the ACI Cartage Company plus the associated cartage cost for services. Follow these steps to find the best airport to use in/out of a city:

  1. Find the state.

  2. Find the city (they are arranged alphabetically).

  3. Look to see if the city is an area A, B or C to the closest major airport.

  4. You choose routing by the lower letter code area, Area ‘A’ being closest airport.

  5. If closest airport is too small to handle freight go to next closest airport.

  6. If for some reason City is not in ACI, consult with a Manager or use Yahoo Maps, Map quest on internet and use ZIP to find closest routing or www.randmcnally.com.

  7. If all the airport codes for the point you are looking for are too small to handle freight, use the same info in step 6 to find closest airport.

SECTION III

OAG

The OAG (Official Airline Guide) is the publication that shows every commercial flight on a daily basis. It will outline the Origin city/Destination city/airline/ flight number/ETD/ETA and type of aircraft.

  1. At each computer you have an OAG icon - click on it.

  2. It will ask you for departure. This is city you are leaving from.

  3. Next tab is arrival. This is city freight is going to.

  4. Next tab you can select specific airlines; or chose “all” by leaving blank.

  5. After you put in departure and arrival it will prompt you to get flight listing.

  6. It will give you all direct flights first. If there are no direct flight choices then it will prompt you to choice connections.

  7. RFS means road feeder. The airline puts the freight on a scheduled truck from a hub airport to the final destination airport.

  8. 737, 757, MD80, 717, 319, 738, 733, 320 or MD90 are all narrow bodied aircraft. They cannot take any freight over 300lbs

  9. 767, 777, 747, DC10 are all wide bodied aircraft. Max height 60in. These aircrafts can handle pallets such as LD2, LD3, LD4, LD8, and LD7’s. Some can handle M1 pallets - consult with a manager on which pallet is best to use or if pallet is needed on larger shipments over 2000lbs. For pallet dimensions, see Reference Info section.

  10. Routing are chosen based on three criteria:

  • The arrival time of the flight at destination.

  • The size of freight

  • Can the cut off can be made.

  1. Cut off for booked freight is 2 hours prior to departure time. If unsure of a routing, present the options for manager’s decision.

  2. Attached to this section is a sheet with aircraft types and door sizes plus type of containers that can go on those flights.

Note: Airline schedules can change daily from what is in the OAG. Make certain to call the airline chosen for all bookings to ensure the equipment is truly available.
