5367 AUST POST WW2 RECORD OF SERVICE BOOKLET. AAB83 For Soldier joined 6th Sept. 1948, from N.S.W. Booklet stamped 30th Battalion N.S.W. Scottish Regiment. Fairly heavy service use. Ink stains & A.I.F. crossed out in biro on front. Grade II- $30

5368 AUST WW2 P.O.W. MAIL TO CAPT. G.W. MANN. 2/1st AIF. Capt. Mann, (then Lieutenant Mann) was awarded the Military Cross for his actions at the battle of Bardia in Syria in 1941. After Bardia his unit was posted to Crete where he was wounded in the leg and this was subsequently amputated. He was treated in a Military Hospital in Athens as a POW, along with other members of his unit before being transferred to Stalag 1X A, in Germany. He was repatriated to Australia in 1943, where he married his wife Leila. One of his fellow POW's was Capt Murray Osten MC of the South Saskatchewan Regt who had been captured at the ill fated Dieppe debacle, in 1942 in the precursor to "D-Day". There are six POW letters sent to Capt Mann from Capt Osten and other POW's, together with service details of all the correspondents together with further detail and photos relating to Capt Osten, including details of his capture and a poem he wrote about an incident which occured just after his capture. Mr Murray Osten died in September 1996 aged 81 years in British Columbia, Canada. After the war he became an agricultural chemist. No information is available about Capt. Mann. Includes a chest up Uniformed B/W photo- graph of Capt. Mann wearing a peaked cap and cross strap. Also includes other research notes. An interesting lot. Grade II-. $325

Lot consists of Faded Brown Kit Bag (Named); Aust Soldiers Pocket Book; 2 Large P/C photographs; A Berth Card from Shipboard Transport; Large Number of Personal Letters Home from two Brothers (One 2/25 A.I. Bn., the other 42nd A.I. Bn.) Both originally from Rockhampton, Qld. Approx. 10 letters, most with Civ. Aid Agencies Letterhead (ie YMCA, Church etc.) One of the Brothers being wounded and in convalescent home Hospital. A very interesting collection. Well worthy of further research. Grade II- $250

Imperial workbook with entries from 1905 to 1918. Entry for the 'Phonix' Aircraft works in Wien, from 30-11-1916 to 15-11-1918. 3rd Reich workbook (Eagle and Swastika to front cover) with entries from 1935 to 1956. 3rd Reich Army Wehrpass (Eagle and Swastika to front cover) to younger son, Rudolf Strau (With I.D. Photo), Born 14-4-1927. Attached to Ersatz reserve 1. Minimul entries from 12-7-1944 to 19-12-1944. Also included is a chest up period photograph of a soldier wearing an M40 tunic with Russian front ribbon through second tunic buttonhole. This appears to be a photograph of the older son, Born in 1922. Unusual lot to the one family. Grade II- $285

Addressed to a Dr. Middleton-Smith C/o Lloyds Bank. Hants. England, with a short typed message (in English). Has red Ink English "passed" stamp to bottom of document. 2X fold marks Seperated at top fold mark (has been taped back together.) Second document in German, dated 1942, is a receipt for a load of horse manure for W.J. Renouf. Has ink Eagle and Swastika feld post stamp. 3X fold marks. Grade III+ $225

5385 GERM WW2 Waffen SS Wehrpass- Army style with ink "Waffen SS" stamp inside box at bottom of front cover. Issued to an Alfred Starke, Radio operator (Funker), I D Photo in civilian clothes. Entries from 22.8.1942 to 30.7.1943. Originally served with the 8 Nacht. Ers. Abt.D Waffen SS Nurnberg then served on the eastern front with Stabskompane SS Pz Gren Regt "Deutschland and III/SS Regt Deutschland Stab. Received splinter wounds to hand and leg while still serving on the eastern front. Numerous “SS” ink stamps thoughout. Grade II $600
