Buffalo Soldier was the nickname given to members of the African American horse cavalry regiments of the U.S. Army who served from 1867 to 1896. The Buffalo Soldiers mainly served in the western United States and fought Indians on the frontier. The nickname was given to them by the Indians who respected their fighting abilities.
