Traditions
TU kicks off Homecoming week with an annual Bonfire on the U. It's a time when the entire TU family comes together. The band plays, the cheerleaders pump up the crowd, and representatives from the student body, alumni, faculty, and administration light the Bonfire in unison.
On game day, Tulsa football fans are encouraged to line 8th Street/Glenn Dobbs Drive approximately two hours and 15 minutes prior to kick off to cheer on the Golden Hurricane football team as they make their way from Sharp Chapel to H.A. Chapman Stadium. The TEAM WALK begins on the edge of Hurricane Alley, which opens three hours prior to kickoff. Led by the Sound of the Hurricane percussion unit, Captain ‘Cane and the TU Spirit Squads, this Tulsa football tradition began in 2007.
"Hail to Tulsa U" is sung by alumni and current students prior to major sporting events and at the end of all commencement ceremonies. Alumni and students remain standing as a sign of respect. The melody is played by the Sharp Chapel carillon daily at 5 pm
