The Mary P. Oenslager Scholastic Achievement Awards (SAA)

The Scholastic Achievement Awards are presented to RFB&D members who are college seniors and blind or visually impaired. A selection committee will choose nine exceptional students as recipients of this award. RFB&D gives three top winners $6,000 each, three special honors winners $3,000 each, and three honors winners $1,000 each.


Applicants must meet all of the following eligibility criteria:

  • Legally blind

  • Registered as an RFB&D member for at least one year, up to and including the period of April 1, 2009 - April 30, 2010 (individually or through a school)

  • Have or will receive a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree from an accredited four year college or university in the United States between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010

  • Overall grade point average of 3.0 or more on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent if an alternative grading system is used)

California Association for Postsecondary Education and Disability (CAPED)
CAPED invites you to complete a Student Scholarship Application. Scholarship applications will be accepted between May 1st and October 5th.
Walter Young Memorial Scholarship $1,000

In memory of Walter Young, CAPED supporter and husband of Past President, Ellen Young. Awarded to a college student who is blind or visually impaired.



Association for Blind Citizens - Reggie Johnson Memorial Scholarship

The Association of Blind Citizens will offer ten thousand dollars in college scholarships to legally blind individuals seeking a college degree. The Reggie Johnson Memorial Scholarship will be valued at $2000 and eight $1000 scholarships will be available.

The scholarships will be offered for the 2010/2011 school year. The scholarship may be applied to tuition, living expenses or related expenses resulting from blindness.

Renee Feldman Scholarships

The scholarships are open to the spouses or children of blinded veterans, and membership in Blinded Veterans Association (BVA) is not required. To be eligible, applicant must have been accepted at the school of his/her choice. The institution in question may be a vocational school, community college, four-year college, or university. The fees in all cases are paid directly to the school and are intended to defray the cost of tuition, books, and general fees. Financial data: $1,000-$2,000. Number awarded: 5



Kathern F. Gruber Scholarship Program

For undergraduate or graduate study to dependent children and spouses of legally blind veterans. The veteran's blindness may be either service or non-service connected. High school seniors may apply. California Council of the Blind


The California Council of the Blind gives a number of awards to the most deserving blind student applicants residing in California who will enter or continue studies at an accredited college or university in either undergraduate or graduate status.
These awards may be granted in two parts (1/2 each semester) upon receipt of proof of registration for each semester. You must be a legal California resident, who is legally blind, to apply. Awards will be granted on the basis of academic scholarship and other factors including financial need. Deadline: June 15, 2010

Georgia Council of the Blind Scholarship
Each year, the Georgia Council of the Blind presents one or more scholarships of up to one thousand dollars to students who are legally blind, or to sighted students who are financially dependent on legally blind parent(s).
Applicants must be accepted in one of the following levels of post-secondary education: (a) Vocational/technical school; (b) Junior or four-year College; (c) Master's or Doctoral program at an accredited University. Applicants must be legal residents of the state of Georgia. Deadline: June 15, 2010

Arthur E. and Helen Copeland Scholarships

The Arthur E. and Helen Copeland Scholarships are awarded annually to one male and one female member of the United States Association of Blind Athletes (USABA) who is legally blind and enrolling/enrolled at a two-year or four-year or technical institution or university as a full-time student.


Applicants must have participated in USABA sports programs. Consideration will be given to students with good academic records, involvement in civic/extracurricular activities, academic goals/objectives and USABA involvement at various levels. The Mary Anne Parks Performing Arts Scholarship

Each year, the Performing Arts Division of the National Federation of the Blind awards a scholarship to recognize achievement by, and to offer support of, a blind individual interested in pursuing an education in, or pertaining to, the performing arts.  All applicants for this scholarship: (1) must be legally blind; (2) must be pursuing or planning to pursue a full-time, post-secondary course of study in a Performing Arts degree program, or are pursuing, or plan to pursue, a degree in a field related to the performing arts, at an accredited institution, in the United States, in the upcoming academic year; and, (3) if chosen, applicants must participate in the entire NFB national convention, with particular emphasis on all Performing Arts Division activities.
