Project Name: Howard County Historical Preservation & Education Center City: Cresco (Population 3,905) Date of Award: 3/9/2005 Total Project Cost: $394,641 Amount Requested: $142,500 Amount Awarded: $75,000 Project Description: The Howard County Historical Preservation and Education Center will be a 15,000-square-foot pre-engineered steel building, divided into four areas. The largest area of the Center, 10,500-square-feet, will be devoted to the display of large artifacts relating to the agricultural, industrial and community life of Howard County. Another area, 3,500-square-feet, will serve as the Education Center of the facility and will be able to host workshops and seminars relating to the history of Howard County. The third area, 1,500-square-feet will be used for the display of smaller historical items and collections, such as photographs, coins, books, clothing, old records and the like. Special display cases will be used to ensure the artifacts are safe and protected for outside elements. This area of the Center will be climate controlled, and serve as the formal office and main entry into the Center. The fourth area of the Center will serve as the administrative offices for the Agricultural Society and also as the office of the Mighty Howard County Fair.
