A possible project would be to assist with updating the organization’s website and prepare specific suggestions/samples for increased use of social media.

21. SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP/SOCIAL FASHION ENTERPRISE/MARKETING & SALES

WHO: Elizabeth Suda ’05--After nearly two years in the Merchandising Department at Coach, Inc., Elizabeth became curious about how and by whom the goods we consume are made. She ventured to the other side of the world and found a home in Laos where she witnessed the intersection of sustainable economic development and globalization. She worked with a local women-led textile business that and consulted on the income generating potential of handcrafts for Swiss NGO, Helvetas’ Rural Income through Sustainable Development Project, RISE. While on assignment, she met artisans who made spoons from Vietnam War bombs, plane parts, and other scrap aluminum. She had the idea to create a bracelet that was one of the first pieces of jewelry made from weapons to the global market in 2010. Recognizing that market linkage and design are major constraints on artisans, she founded ARTICLE22.

We design and market innovative yet authentic accessible luxury products and tell stories about and give back to the artisan communities that make them. PEACEBOMB, ARTICLE 22’s first story, is a jewelry collection made from Vietnam War era bombs by artisans in Laos, the most heavily bombed country per capita. WHAT: Sales and Marketing Internship in Social Fashion Enterprise/ Brooklyn

ARTICLE 22 seeks a dynamic sales and marketing intern to support sales manager to coordinate across domestic and international distribution channels, managing wholesale trade show clients (i.e. (capsule)) and drop ship partners (i.e. Fab) while supporting direct sales through markets (i.e. Coachella, UnionSquare Christmas Market) and online via shoparticle22.com/ peace-bomb.com.



JOB DESCRIPTION: The intern will directly support management to implement sales and marketing strategies as well as play an important role in daily sales and marketing operations.
Sales responsibilities will include outreach by email and phone to existing and target wholesale customers and management of the database to track conversations. Intern will see sales through beginning with the purchase order to invoicing and shipping. The intern will help fulfill client orders including both web and wholesale orders; this includes light production of goods and packing orders. Client management will be a key component of this role and will include answering customer service inquiries, returns/ exchanges, and general questions.

Marketing responsibilities will include the development of a calendar to coordinate marketing efforts across both retail web and wholesale sales channels. For retail, the intern will help curate and create ARTICLE22’s digital tribe by sourcing and reposting/reblogging/sharing content across all social media (Pinterest, tumblr, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram). Intern will also help develop and implement in house graphic communications (photos, quotes, interviews, etc.) across all aforementioned media plus the ARTICLE22 e-newsletter.

22. FASHION INDUSTRY CO-OP -- DESIGN AND PRODUCTION, LOGISTICS, DIGITAL PLATFORM/ NYC

WHAT: ARTICLE22 is looking for a dynamic intern ready to wear many hats. This intern will work very closely with product at nearly all points along the supply chain, from design development and production, to inventorying and distribution to customers.
1) Design and Production: Assistance coordinating orders with local artisans and vendors; shopping trips to the local Diamond and Garment Districts
2) Distribution, Shipping, Inventory: in charge of coordination fulfilling, packing and shipping, client orders including both web and wholesale orders. Managing clients including providing tracking numbers, answering customer service inquiries, handling returns/ exchanges and general questions. Client management will be a key component of this role and will include answering customer service inquiries, returns/ exchanges, and general questions.
3) Digital platform: ARTICLE22 digital platform (article22.com and social medias) is a fundamental interface between customers (including international customers) and the brand, which needs to be actively maintained and updated on a daily basis. You will be supporting the maintenance of our online presence including uploading new product on web, posting new content on blog and social media, posting new press features, launching special offers, releasing order upon reception among others.
Depending upon the allocation of work, time and your interest, a possible third and fourth project categories would provide you with exposure to sales and marketing:
4) Sales, market: Direct sales experience at retail events. As part of the general intern training, you will receive a full training to learn the key elements on becoming a good sales person, including tips to learn how to build your own sales speech and deliver the story of ARTICLE22 with impact.
5) Digital marketing: Supporting content creation and implementation, example: Instagram. Outside of the main categories noted above, additional projects may include: creation of a press library, support at fashion photoshoot, and organization of communications database of photos and story content.

WHAT: Creative Assistant Photo and/or Product Design in Social Fashion Enterprise/ Brooklyn

ARTICLE 22 seeks dynamic sales and marketing intern to support sales manager to coordinate across domestic and international distribution channels, managing wholesale and / or retail events. The creative assistant will help with a range of creative projects and requires technical know how to achieve them. Projects include photographing new products, creating marketing content, and uploading to website and across social media platforms. This position requires someone techy savvy and interested in taking a proactive approach to learning new platforms.


1) Photography: product shots for website and social media including still life shots and possibly some model shots.
2) Product and content design: strong preference for someone that can CAD 3D print ready designs. Hands on painting and other production is a big plus. Content design includes marketing and brand literature such as post cards, business cards, and packaging for our products.

24. EDUCATION- INDEPENDENT SCHOOL TEACHING AND BEYOND

Who: John Kowalik ’83- John is the Head of School at The Potomac School in McLean, VA

WHERE: The Potomac School is a coeducational, Grades K- 12 independent school in McLean, VA, approximately 3 miles from Washington D.C. Potomac enrolls approximately 1050 students in 4 divisions, the Lower School (Grades K-3), the Middle School (Grades 4-6), the Intermediate School (Grades 7-8) and the Upper School (Grades 9-12). Potomac students live in communities across northern Virginia, Washington, and Maryland. Founded in 1904 on Dupont Circle and moved to its current location in 1951, Potomac is recognized as one of the leading K-12 day schools in the United States.

WHAT: You will serve as an intern at Potomac for approximately 3 weeks in January. The internship will expose you to all facets of independent school life—teaching and learning, educational practice, classroom mechanics and activity, and various administrative areas of a school. The internship will be divided into 3 modules, one for each week:
Week 1: Listening, observing, and meeting with experienced teachers and

administrators; shadowing; discussing best practices or solutions to

classroom or school issues; gaining an appreciation for the educational work

experience and the many facets of school life.



Week 2: Assisting with classroom activity and preparing lesson plans; participating in projects or designing solutions.

Week 3: Teaching and delivery of lessons; presenting reports.

25. SCHOOL LEADERSHIP AND EDUCATION

WHO:  Shamus Brady 04’

Mr. Brady is the principal of the Willow Hill School, a 6-12 independent school serving students with learning disabilities and/or students on the autism spectrum.



WHERE:  Sudbury, MA

WHAT: Work in a variety of roles at the school including work in the classrooms, administration, finance, communication and admissions.  The school serves 62 students in grades 6-12 from over 40 different communities.  The majority of the students are placed at the school by local school districts who are unable to meet the educational needs of the students.  We serve students with learning disabilities and students on the autism spectrum.  100% of the students graduate with a high school diploma and recently the vast majority have gone on to college.

26. DEVELOPMENT/FUNDRAISING/PHILANTHROPY/EVENT PLANNING

WHO: Leah Thompson, Director of Development at BART Charter Public School

WHERE: BART Charter Public School in Adams, MA

WHAT: Provide a wide range of support to BART’s Director of Development. This is an opportunity to gain experience in and familiarity with areas such as fundraising, event planning, non-profit writing, database management, and the day-to-day operations of a non-profit public charter school. 
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: 

• Assist in planning and execution of major fundraising event

• Participate in the solicitation of sponsorships and in-kind donations

• Draft correspondence and donor appeals

• Use donor database to conduct queries, manage data, and generate reports

• Attend committee meetings 

• Assist with mailings, filing, and special projects as needed 
Qualifications:

• Desire to learn more about fundraising and philanthropy

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google products

• Good interpersonal skills and keen attention to detail

27. Library and Archival Science

WHERE: American Philosophical Society Library, Philadelphia, PA

WHAT: The American Philosophical Society is the oldest learned society in America, founded by Benjamin Franklin in 1743. The library holds significant collections relating to Early American history, Native American studies and anthropology, and the history of science, technology, and medicine.

Students interested in archives and special collections will have the chance to work alongside APS staff on small projects in the APS library and digital laboratory. Projects may include collection research for digital humanities galleries, working with manuscripts processors, and assisting the cataloguing department with rare book assessions. The successful applicant will learn first-hand about the archival profession and gain valuable exposure to a non-profit research library.
