ALEX
Why daddy? Why can't I play on the road?
No cars are coming.
With a firm tone of voice and a stern look on his face.
VICTOR
I already told you. It is dangerous to play on the road.
You have to learn to obey and do what you are told.
I know what's best for you.
Alex looks down.
ALEX
OK, Daddy. I won't play on the road no more
In a softer tone of voice.
VICTOR
Good. Now, go play outback.

Have you forgotten your childhood?
CHARLIE
Nope. But back then, that road was a horse trail.
Sometimes I wish it still was.
VICTOR
I know what you mean.
Ever since they built that road to get to the mines,
things have changed in this town.
CHARLIE
And to make things worse, now they have increased the speed limit.
It isn't safe to cross that road anymore.
VICTOR
My Emma would have fought the city council
to keep that from happening.
CHARLIE
Yea...
She sure loved running that trail.
I remember it, like it was yesterday...

CHARLIE
Victor, we all loved Emma very much, but...
You should be thinking about getting that child of yours a new mom.
VICTOR
I don't know Charlie.
Sometimes I think this is all a dream and...
One day I'll wake up, she will walk right through that door
and into my arms, like she used to.
CHARLIE
Well. Wake-up to reality my friend.
Knowing your wife as I did,
I don't think she would approve of you being alone.
VICTOR
I know old friend. I know. It's just...
