Girl Scouts Job Shadow & Kick-Off 100th at Girl Scout Day with Atlanta Dream

MABLETON, GA (August 18, 2011) – Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta, Inc. (GSGATL) will celebrate Girl Scout Day at the Atlanta Dream on Friday, August 19, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. at Phillips Arena. Special activities will include an Atlanta Dream/Girl Scout job shadow program and a pinning ceremony at halftime. In addition, Junior Girl Scout Coley Gilchrist will sing the national anthem at half time.

The job shadow program involves Girl Scout Juniors, Cadettes and Ambassadors (from grade levels 4 –12) who will perform a variety of typical “day of the game” tasks on the 19th. The Girl Scouts will work in concessions and operations. They will also serve as greeters and as ball girls during the Dream game
The day also marks an official kick-off of Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta’s 100th Anniversary celebrations. Girl Scouts was founded in Savannah, Georgia in 1912 and as the largest council in the founding state, Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta will have major events and 100th activities throughout 2012.
During the pre-tip off pinning ceremony, Coley Gilchrist a Junior Girl Scout with Troop 4322 in Conyers, Georgia will sing the National Anthem. Coley will then award Alison Bales, a Dream player and Girl Scout alumna, with a 100th anniversary pin.
During halftime, the CEO of Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta, Marilyn Midyette, will be acknowledged by the Atlanta Dream as a co-captain of the team. Midyette will then address the crowd about outstanding Girl Scout alumnae. “Our alumnae are shining examples of our impact in the community and in our nation. Eighty percent of women business owners, almost 70 percent of our legislators, and all female astronauts were Girl Scouts. That’s quite a track record,” says Midyette.
In addition, Midyette will ask the crowd to honor and support the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouts by
