WHEREAS, each year, approximately 30 children die in the United States as a result of being trapped in hot vehicles; and
WHEREAS, on warm sunny days, even when temperatures are in the 60s, the temperature inside a locked vehicle can rise to dangerous levels within mere minutes; and
WHEREAS, the overwhelming number of these deaths involve loving caregivers who, having been momentarily distracted, make a mistake that they relive for the rest of their lives; and
WHEREAS, from seat belts to air bags to anti-lock brakes, the automotive industry has researched and developed safety technology that is now standard equipment on all cars, resulting in thousands of lives saved;
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:
Section 1. The members of this body encourage the manufacturers of motor vehicles sold in the United States to install warning devices which warn that a child has been left in a locked vehicle.
Section 2. The Clerk of the House of Representatives shall forward a copy of this Resolution to the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, 1401 Eye Street, N.W., Suite 900, Washington, DC 20005.
