AAA MID-ATLANTIC 2010 FOUR DIAMOND AWARD WINNERS ANNOUNCED
The Westin Richmond Joins List of Prestigious Properties this Year
RICHMOND, VA (THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 2009) – AAA Mid-Atlantic has announced its 2010 Four Diamond Award® winning hotels and restaurants in the Central and Western Virginia regions. The AAA Four Diamond Award designation, a most prestigious level of distinction for hotels and restaurants, was awarded to twelve area establishments with The Westin Richmond joining the list for the first time.
“Joining the ranks of Four Diamond Award winners and maintaining Four Diamond Award status is not an easy task and is truly reserved for those establishments which continuously demonstrate an unwavering commitment to superior hospitality – attentive service, premier comfort, and so much more! AAA is proud to welcome The Westin Richmond as they join an impressive list of properties in Virginia,” said Martha Mitchell Meade, Manager of Public and Government Affairs for AAA Mid-Atlantic. “It is especially impressive for The Westin Richmond to attain a Four Diamond rating and for all of the properties to remain at the Four Diamond Award level during challenging economic times when many properties are cutting back on amenities or services. The entire team at The Westin Richmond and all of the properties are to be congratulated for their dedication and success.”
Feliks Schwartz, General Manager of The Westin Richmond, has had his eye on the AAA Four Diamond Award for many years as he built his impressive career in the hospitality industry. “Creating an environment where every hotel associate respectfully tends to every detail required to make our guests’ experiences truly memorable is not an easy task but an extremely rewarding one,” said Schwartz. “Having been presented with AAA’s Four Diamond Award in the first year of operation is truly an honor and a testament to the team work of the entire hotel staff. I am happy to have achieved this level of distinction while simultaneously working through any natural wrinkles which are part of opening any new hotel.”
AAA Four Diamond Award winners represent just 3.5 percent of the 58,000 Diamond Rated lodgings and restaurants throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean.

We are pleased that so many establishments in our area have reached this level of service, and we are honored to present these outstanding properties with the Four Diamond Award designation for 2010.”

The assignment of a AAA rating of One to Five Diamonds marks the completion of a successful annual evaluation by one of AAA’s professional inspectors. AAA’s professional inspectors evaluate and rate more than 58,000 lodgings and restaurants in the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean using a scale of One to Five Diamonds. They conduct an average of more than 1,100 property evaluations per year and have a combined total of 700 years experience. The average tenure is 12 years, with the longest being 28 years. AAA inspectors work remotely and bring significant prior industry experience to the association.

AAA’s Diamond Rating System is the only ratings system that covers all of North America and one of only two that conducts physical, on-site evaluations. It is the only system that uses full-time, professionally trained evaluators to inspect each property using guidelines made available to all establishments. AAA evaluates more properties than any other rating entity. Information about AAA Diamond Ratings and the complete 2010 Diamond Award winners are accessible at AAA.com/News.
