Resolution of Recognition and Remembrance
Whereas the Atlanta University/Clark Atlanta University (AU/CAU) School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS), established in 1941, helped to diversity the profession, by preparing more African-Americans for careers in libraries and library education than any other single institution
Whereas the Atlanta University/Clark Atlanta University School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS) successfully fulfilled its mission of “educating library and information professionals who are culturally diverse and able to serve successfully in libraries and information centers throughout the world” for more than six decades
Whereas the Atlanta University/Clark Atlanta University School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS), the only ALA-accredited university in Georgia, was successful in the placement of 99% of its graduates
Whereas the alumni, deans, and faculty of the Atlanta University/Clark Atlanta University (AU/CAU) School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS) have shaped libraries in the United States and around the world, as librarians and leaders
Whereas the Atlanta University/Clark Atlanta University (AU/CAU) School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS) has contributed to the field and advanced the profession
Resolved, that the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), on behalf of its members:
1. recognizes the lasting legacy of the Atlanta University/Clark Atlanta University School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS)and its contributions to the world of librarianship and specifically to ALA and its members; and
2. expresses its appreciation and gratitude for those contributions and looks forward to continued leadership in the field by those alumni and faculty of the Atlanta University/Clark Atlanta University (AU/CAU) School of Library and Information Studies
