AFMA TO BE RENAMED INDEPENDENT FILM & TELEVISION ALLIANCE

To Reflect Global Membership and Extensive Scope of Activities
CANNES, May 17, 2004 – AFMA today announced that the association will be officially renamed as the Independent Film & Television Alliance on 1 July 2004. Michael Ryan, Chairman AFMA commented, “This is a significant year for us and it is important that our members are part of an organization with a name that reflects the global nature of our business today.”
Jean Prewitt, President and CEO of AFMA added, “I am delighted that the name change is taking place in 2004. Our organization’s activities are diverse, including lobbying, arbitration, royalty collections, licensing support and market research, as well as producing the American Film Market – the name of which will remain unchanged. We also have a reach that extends wider than film, with members such as TF1, Discovery Communications, FremantleMedia and Granada International . We’re very proud of what we do and believe the new name truly echoes the breadth and scope of our operation and that of our members. ”
The American Film Market (AFM) takes place 3-10 November 2004 in Santa Monica.

AFMA is the global trade association for the independent motion picture and television industry. Headquartered in Los Angeles, the organization represents and provides significant entertainment industry services to more than 150 member companies from 15 countries, consisting of independent production and distribution companies, sales agents, television companies, studio-affiliated companies and financial institutions engaged in film finance. Forty percent of AFMA’s membership and thirty percent of the association’s board of directors are from outside of the US. Collectively, AFMA members produce more than 350 films and countless hours of television programming each year and generate more than $4 billion in distribution revenues annually.


AFMA members include such well-known names in the film and TV industry as Alliance-Atlantis, Capitol Films, Crystal Sky, Filmax, Focus Features, Goldcrest Films, Good Times Entertainment, HBO, IAC, Intermedia, Liberty Entertainment, Lions Gate, Lola Films, Miramax, Morgan Creek, New Line, NU Image, First Look Media, Pathe, StudioCanal, Summit, TF1, Troma and Wild Bunch.
