Agreement on the Relationship between Atlantics Coast Conference of the Mennonite Church USA (ACC) and the Mennonite Convention of Puerto Rico (PRMC)


Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) agrees to extend the Mennonite Convention of Puerto Rico (PRMC) the Associate Membership status as provide in the By-Laws of ACC, subject to the following:

Purpose

ACC and PRMC desire to establish a relationship of Christian association with the purpose of mutual encouragement to fulfill the mission of God in the world.



ACC agrees to extend to the PRMC

  • All privileges of an associated member of ACC

  • Full privilege to access documents and resources of ACC and the Mennonite Church USA (MCUSA), including policy manuals, minutes, vision statements, and other materials available to the congregations of ACC.

  • A permanent invitation to be present in the ACC assemblies and offer feedback and counsel as delegates without vote.

  • Freedom to the Conference Minister (Moderator) to seek counsel and pastoral support as mutually agreed, subject to the approval of the executive bodies (Council) of both ACC and PRMC.

  • Mutual respect and recognition of/to the pastoral credentials according to what has been granted by each of their respective conferences.

  • Access to continued education training programs for leaders and theological courses according as they are made available for pastors of ACC.

  • Prayer concerns.

  • Opportunities for mutual visits of delegates and cultural/spiritual exchanges.

PRMC agrees to extend to ACC

  • Fulfillment of the terms and conditions of the associated membership as defined in the By-Laws of ACC.

  • A permanent invitation to be present in the PRMC assemblies and offer feedback and counsel as participants without vote.

  • An oral or written report of the work of God en the churches of the PRMC.

  • Access to the leadership and documents of the vision and resources of the PRMC.

  • An annual financial contribution in the amount that the PRMC agree to be appropriate, according to God’s provision.

  • Mutual respect and recognition of/to the pastoral credentials according to what has been granted by each of their respective conferences.

  • Prayer concerns.

  • Opportunities for mutual visit of delegates and cultural/spiritual exchanges.

  • The right to offer counsel without any commitment from ACC or MCUSA.

Changes to this Agreement

The terms of the Relationship Agreement between ACC and PRMC must be approved by the majority of delegates present in an annual assembly of the two bodies and reviewed yearly by each of their respective executive committees. The leadership of the MCUSA is invited to revise this agreement and give additional counsel according as they consider being appropriate.

None of the parts, neither ACC nor PRMC, can end or change this Agreement on the Relationship without previous dialogue on any different understanding that may arise in the course of this mutual relation. All amendments to this document will be by mutual agreement.

PRMC will have the privilege to ask for full membership status with ACC and MCUSA at any point that PRMC consider it appropriate.

ACC is not committed to any financial support to PRMC, but it can provide grants for a specific need in the PRMC, by an executive action of ACC or the approval by the delegates, with the exception of subsidy of grants for training which is approved by the Ministerial Leadership Committee.

The terms of this Relationship Agreement will be in effect after its approval by the delegates of the ACC and PRMC.
