Obama has been living in Washington since he left office on January 20, 2017. The foundation for his presidential library in Chicago was laid in 2021. Obama has continued to be involved in Democratic politics after leaving office, appearing at rallies and supporting candidates in a number of recent American elections. Obama's three non-political books, Dreams from My Father (1995), The Audacity of Hope (2006), and A Promised Land (2020), have all been bestsellers. Since 2010, he has been included in academic and historical rankings, where he is consistently placed in the middle to top tier of American presidents.[3][4][5] The Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children in Honolulu, Hawaii, is where Obama entered the world on August 4, 1961[6].He is the only president to have been born outside of the 48 contiguous states [7][8][9].[10] His mother is American and his father is Kenyan. His mother, Ann Dunham (1942-1995), was a Kansas native with ancestry that includes the British Isles, Central Europe, and the Irish Sea.
