To: Mike Joyner, Chapter Administrator From: Chris Jenkins, Northwest Georgia Branch President Date: March 26, 2014 Subject: 2014 – 1st Quarter Branch Report
_________________________________________________________________ The Northwest Georgia Branch of APWA had an informative 1st quarterly meeting on March 26th in Rome, Georgia at the ECO Center. Bob Nickelson from Portland Cement Association (PCA) delivered an informative presentation on Roller Compacted Concrete Paving to audience of 17 listeners. The presentation explained the process by which concrete is placed by conventional or high-density asphalt paving equipment, and then compacted by rollers. Several past and present projects were discussed throughout the presentation, which included the rehabilitation of 17.3 miles along the west side of Atlanta’s Perimeter Beltway, the I-285 project consisted of concrete pavement replacement on the mainline, and reconstruction of the outside shoulders both northbound and southbound. As one could imagine, several questions were asked by the asphalt faithful’s, which provided for solid and informative interaction with the speaker. It was a good presentation and we were very appreciative to have Mr. Nickelson at our meeting.
During the meeting, Andrew Parker briefly mentioned scholarship deadlines, the future improvements on the chapter’s website, and the upcoming Annual Meeting in July, 2014. I (Chris Jenkins) mentioned the venues for the following quarterly meetings and our appreciation for the group’s attendance.
