2/19/07 Atlanta club board members conference call minutes
1. Membership Mailing - Target date for mailing is the end of March. Tim
will be responsible for getting an estimate from alumnus Paul Bregande's
business to include printing, assembling and bulk postage for mailing.
Kevin suggested offering Paul a 1/4 page ad in the mailing in exchange for a
discount. Chris Kocks will be the person in charge of the executing the
mailing with its various components.
2. UND - Maria Mucha is heading up this event which is set for Sunday
brunch on May 20th @ 10:30AM. Our speaker will be Dave Poulin, head coach
for Notre Dame hockey. Chris Kocks suggested that in addition to reaching
out to local dioceses for marketing of this event in church bulletins that
we consider reaching out to local Thrasher hockey fans/team members in some
way. It was suggested that a personal invitation to UND (on club stationery)
be sent to Jerome Bettis who now resides in Roswell. Additionally it was
proposed that if Jerome was able to attend that he could be asked to
introduce Dave Poulin. Maria Mucha will be asked to approach Dave Poulin
about this possibility. (I sent Maria an email already.) If there is a
positive response from Dave Poulin Bob Splude will contact Jerome Bettis'
business manager whom he has previously contacted about the ND vs. GT events.
It was suggested by Mike Morris that the club offer in exchange to help
procure volunteers if Jerome Bettis decides to launch an event for his non-
profit foundation. Chris Kocks will contact our BA of ND Region 4
representative James Scarborough '03 (email: Region4Director-BAof
ND@alumni.nd.edu) to co-ordinate participation for UND. Possibly also

3. Peachstate Scholarship Fund Contribution- The efforts of those that
planned our club
GT weekend events paid off in a big way. The club has donated $26,000 to
the Atlanta Club Peachstate Scholarship endowment. The club has already
received a thank you from Fr. Jenkins which Chris Kocks will scan and send
to John Ujda to post on the club web site. Chris will also send a copy to
Chuck Lennon in the Alumni office. Kevin McHugh will write a paragraph
about the contribution to be included in the next club e-newsletter which
will include a link to the letter from Fr. Jenkins. Mike Morris suggested
another link at the end of the
letter directing readers to the online club membership. Kevin McHugh is
having a large ceremonial check printed up; which it was decided will be
presented at the UND celebration, possibly to Dave Poulin as the
representative from the university. This presentation will be a photo
opportunity which we will also post on the web site and additionally send in
to the university for the printed alumni newsletter.
4. St.Patrick's Day Parade - Kevin McHugh is overseeing this event, but
recruited Matt Keown to co-ordinated marchers and "throws". A banner has
been ordered. Rose Carroll was working on bead acquisition and will contact
a car dealership about supplying a courtesy car. Kevin McHugh suggested the
club consider an after parade meeting place. There may be an Irish pub at
Underground Atlanta which we can ask to accommodate our marchers.
5. Non-Profit Leadership The Hospital Support program does not have a
formal coordinator yet; although, we do have volunteers organized for
emergency support.
& Excellence in Teaching - Rochelle Valsaint is
handling the logistics for the new initiative from the ND business school.
The club has approved $1000 toward sponsoring an attendee to this university
event. The club would like this to become a self-sustaining event. Rose
Carroll will contact
Rochelle with ideas about what has worked for the Excellence in Teaching
program including ear-marked funding. We will consider asking sponsored
attendees to cover some of the expenses. Rose Carroll will look into the
registration
fee scholarship for EIT offered my the university admissions office.
Skymiles donations would be very helpful in keeping cost to the club down
significantly for both events.
6. Hospital Support - This is outreach to children of alumni who may be in
Atlanta area hospitals. Pete Campbell is our regional director for senior
alumni, heading the national initiative.
7. Summer Service Intern - The Georgia Justice Project (GJP) will not be
able to host an ND student this summer. The Center for Social Concerns is
willing to pay for a 2nd student because of the demand for the GJP
internship. Rose Carroll will be checking with 3 other similar programs to
find if they have a need for interns. If not she will contact the previous
internship location, The Bridge. We will request a scholarship from the
university to offset our club's share of paying the summer service stipend.
8. The club will ask for prayers and make a contribution to a charity on
behalf of Jay Mannelly's wife Patty who recently passed away.
9. The next meeting is scheduled for Sunday, April 1st @2pm.
